“A MUST”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

This museum is a must for the art lover and for anyone, really. Admission is free and there is SO much amazing art from all periods. Don't miss out. I loved every minute I spent in there. What you may need to do, if you really want to enjoy the art and have the time, is visit different exhibits on separate days. It's a lot of walking around and standing, so you'll be tired by the time you leave.

“Go for an hour or a day”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

I adore this museum and am so glad it's a free attraction. I imagine I'll spend quite a few afternoons here when the weather gets much cooler.

The collection is extremely varied and you can see art of all kinds of different forms - furniture, sculpture, paintings, armor, etc. The modern wing is a stunning addition. I think it flows well from the outside and inside. For me, I could spend an hour there or a full day. There's a decent restaurant and so much to see. You can't see it all in a short time span. However, if you have limited art attention span, you could see as much or as little as you have the time or patience for. Since it doesn't cost anything, you can see the collection in small bits, if that works better.

I don't mind the parking - there's a lot of parking outside. The parking garage is $15 for non-members and $5 for members. You pay before you leave and it makes exiting the garage pretty simple, if you don't end up behind someone who didn't pay before they got in their car.

“Free Exhibits”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

I've only been here twice, the first time was required for a college course and the second time I took my niece to see a special exhibit of Chinese textiles maybe in 2010. My favorite era is Impressionism so I love that room. This place is huge and the halls are very pretty. The admission is free but there is a fee for special limited time exhibits, such as the Chinese textile one was. The museum is open longer on Tuesdays and that is also their free special exhibit day. This museum is a part of the Forest Park experience and I think there is a Forest Park shuttle in addition to the museum's free parking lot(s). The shuttle is operated by the public transportation system.

“Super collection with a new wing”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

This place is like a maze with an excellent collection of art. Parking is the big problem. Since the same parking exists for several facilities you either want to come early or pay $15 to park beneath the museum. Actually, the $15 was worth it because after hiking all day looking at art, it was only a few feet to the car. :) They have a lovely little cafe to eat at. Expect to spend all day.

“Gigantic Art Museum at Its Best”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

St. Louis Art Museum is absolutely gigantic. We spent a full 8 hr day at the Museum and still needed more time. They recently opened a new wing that is a must see. Admission is free and so is the parking. Get there early for free parking.
