The Central Public library has undergone a massive remodel. It keeps the beauty of the old but enhances it with modern facilities, more reading rooms, and a wonderfully intimate auditorium.

In the heart of St. Louis, near the famous arch and baseball stadium, sits the magnificent century old Central Public Library. One of America's great public libraries, the building was lovingly restored 2012 and upgraded for the 21st century. Historians, architecture fans, genealogists and just ordinary book lovers will appreciate the restored beaux arts building painting, Florentine ceiling, stained glass and marble. Hours and tour information is found on the website. Friendly staff and free wifi available throughout. A beautiful skylit room on the third floor hosts special exhibits. We were lucky enough to see photos and newspaper coverage of the devasting late 19th century St. Louis area F-5 tornado.

Take the free walking tour. Wonderful architecture and stained glass windows. Very impressive! The children's area was unique.

The Central Library was one of my dad's favorite places to visit during his lunch hours when he worked downtown. For Father's Day we visited this newly renovated architectural treasure. Dad would have been thrilled to see it now. Anyone visiting St. Louis should be sure to visit this gorgeous library.

This library built in the early 20th century has been recently restored and is a thing of beauty. Every room in it cries out "look up, see my ceiling, see my columns, walls etc." We have been to many palaces in Europe and this grand building evokes some of the same feelings we experienced abroad. It is located in the downtown area and is huge - a block by a block by a block,by a block. There is metered parking around the building and free parking a block away.

The library is extremely up to date with rooms for research, computer training, ebooks, etc, etc. They will soon be opening a cafe on the lower level and have areas set aside for children, teens, and adults. Stop by to see the building, check out a book and enjoy. We did.
