The newly renovated library is I itself a work of art blending the modern conveniences with the stately architecture of the past.

Upon the recommendation of the Hyatt’s concierge, I went to the Central Library of St. Louis. The Central Library at 13th and Olive was built in 1912 on a location formerly occupied by the St. Louis Exposition and Music Hall and was designed by Cass Gilbert. This magnificent building recently underwent a massive restoration, and it is unbelievably beautiful. In addition to being a library, it is a museum, an architectural wonder, and a place that fosters a learning environment. This is a beautiful building, and the tour provided me by Peter, a retired school teacher who was one of the docents, was informative and interesting. I spent close to two hours in this library, and it was time well spent. I would certainly return the next time I am in St. Louis.

We went to the Central Library's open house and were very impressed with the renovation. If you are an architectural buff, this is a sight that should not be missed. Some of its features are unlike anything I've ever seen. And they did a great job of blending the new with the old.

Recently renovated, the architecture of this library is just amazing. If you are in the area, stop in just to walk through all the different rooms. They just don't build public spaces like this anymore.

The $70 million in renovation funding is apparent. The ceiling murals, marble staircases, and stained glass have been preserved. A huge long countertop was shortened to offer better help and checkout space. All of the best wonderful old features have been retained, with an enticing children's room and a state-of-the-art group workroom. Docents offer tours regularly, or just go and marvel. Well done!
