“Great at Night”

This area is definitely best at night. Great food and nightlife. The street performers were a nice touch. It also appears they are keeping the bum problem down to a minimum.

“Fun place to barhop.”
Reviewed August 17, 2012

When you get to Laclede's Landing it does not look like much till you get into the middle streets. Lots of fun bars and restaurants. Only few street wide but fun places to go in and out of.

“Fun place overrun by bums & drunks, all brazenly accosting you for money”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

The good news is that there are lots of old warehouses and other structures that have been creatively reclaimed and repurposed for bars & restaurants. Some of the brick streets are even closed to traffic, and you can dine outside & watch passers-by.

The bad news is that practically every homeless drunk & bum in the city knows that it is a beggar's paradise. They roam the streets, walking right up to you, stinking of booze & body odor, pitching their hard-luck stories, pestering you to give them a little money. They even come up to your tables if you're dining outside! Luckily some of the restaurants and other businesses try to shoo these people away, but they can't get them all. Beware. I have law enforcement experience. When I was planning my trip & learned about this area, I wanted to take my teenagers there. I specifically asked several people if it would be safe and was told it would be. I guess the fact that we survived without being robbed proves it was "safe." However, I would not advise anyone to go there late at night.

“Could be so much more”
Reviewed August 10, 2012 via mobile

We were expecting to find places to eat and shop, but aside from a Wax Museum thing and a shop of costume/magic tricks, this is just a collection of restaurant/bar places on the riverfront. We ate at the spaghetti factory and a couple days later at one of the grille places, but don't feel any need to go back when we're walking in the park around the arch.

“Potential unrealized”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

This is a historic area of St. Louis with a lot of potential for charm and quaintness, but right now, it is pretty much just run down. A lot of the businesses are closed and the sidewalks and streets are in disrepair. There are old brick buildings just begging for rehabilitation, but instead, we saw tattoo parlors, cheap souvenir shops and a few restaurants, like the Old Spaghetti Factory, Big Daddy's and some others even less memorable.
