“Relaxing walk in the park”

Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Park
Reviewed September 2, 2013

The park is very well maintained and has several pathways that lead to the main attraction, the Gateway Arch. There are a lot of trees, so its easy to find some shade from the hot summer sun. This is a photographers paradise, from trying to compose the perfect shot of the Gateway Arch to the countless photo opportunities of the boat activity on the Mississippi River. Its also a great place to relax on many of the park benches and do some people watching.

When you go remember that what you see above ground is only the beginning. A trip up to the top of the arch is not to be missed but neither is the museum that is below ground. It is a large museum and will take some time to see it all. There are also two movies that can be seen. We saw the one about the Lewis & Clark Expedition that was done by The National Geographic Society and it was excellent. The other film about the building of the arch looked equally good. The general store was O.K. All together it took most of the morning. Buy your tickets ahead on-line and avoid the lines. We did the 9:00 A.M. trip to the top of the arch and it was almost empty and this was a Saturday. Buy the time we came back down the lines were LONG both to buy tickets and and also to get to the cars that take you to the top.

Clean and peaceful area in a big city. A spectacular view looking up at the Arch which can only be experienced here.

The Jefferson National Park sits above the muddy Mississippi. Its centerpiece in the Arch and museum. Its basically full of windy tree lined walks that connect you eventually to Laclede's Landing on the north. Other than the fourth of July VP Fair when crowds abound, you can feel a bit alone and vulnerable walking alone.

If you like to chill by the water, enjoy a quiet afternoon here. You won't be disappointed. The bike trail looked very relaxing and the grounds were meticulously manicured.
