“Historic fun for all!”

Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Park
Reviewed March 22, 2012

A great place to spend the day is The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Park. After parking in the "Pay for parking garage", you may want to go directly to the Arch ticket window and get your tickets. You may have to wait, and sometimes the wait can be long. If you have to wait, enjoy the museum, or take a walk around the spacious, well kept grounds.

You will enjoy taking some photo's of the Mississippi River, the trains going by, and the St. Louis skyline. You will be able to walk to the "Old Cathedral", the "Old Courthouse", or a Cardinal game!

You also can use the Metrolink, the light rail system. You can stop at Laclede's Landing and enjoy the varied shops and dining establishments in that area.

Prepare yourself for a "Fun" day and enjoy the view from the top of the Arch!

We visited on our way home from Branson. There were ten people in our party, our grown children and our grandchildren. We stayed in a motel just over the border in Illinois the night before and got up early to drive back in to St. Louis to see the memorial, specifically the Gateway Arch.

At the time of our visit it was very difficult to navigate through massive road construction, but we finally made it to within walking distance of the memorial.

Our four grandchildren had never seen the Arch, and it had been 15-20 years since any of the rest of had stopped on our way through nSt. Louis.

The experience was memorable. This is an exceptional part of American history. When we got up "on top", we experienced an unexpected treat. Since it was July 3, and since the park is where St. Louis was celebrating July 4th., we got to witness air shows being flown along the banks of the Mississippi River.

We saw antique planes, including biplanes, doing all sorts of maneuvers.

I hope St. Louis addresses the confusing street configuration. This place is somewhere everyone should visit.

The whole story of Western expansion is presented here.

Cute little park in the middle of downtown - with view of the Arch and the Old Courtroom - next door to the Hyatt and Drury Hotels. Park benches offer a nice place to sit and relax.
