“Exceptionally Large Park, well landscaped with zoo, art museum, boats, golf, outdoor theater and more”
Reviewed April 25, 2014

There is always something to do in this park, including visiting a world class zoo (with very unique exhibits, a huge walk through bird cage from the 1904 Worlds Fair and with the best train ride anywhere with several unique tunnels), boats you can rent near the 1904 Worlds Fair Pavilion, golf courses, a very large outdoor theater (the Muny) with world class plays and acts, You can also rent a boat in the summer, or go sledding in the winter.

Museums include a Science Center (with many interactive exhibits and an Omnimax theater), a World Class Art Museum (was the fine arts pavilion from the 1904 Worlds Fair), and the Missouri History Museum.

Larger than Central Park in New York, this unique park is a Saint Louis treasure with something for everyone.

Many things are FREE to attend including the zoo, and most or all museums. Shows and special events can have costs. Parking in some lots is not free. There is a lot of on-street parking (but it fills up too) within the park.

No visit to Saint Louis should miss Forest Park

“Great for locals..visitors may wish to pass”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

Forest Park is not any park. It is a mega park, that has a lot of different things for families, or anyone to do. Many of the places on the surface are cheap. The expanse of green space is remarkable for a town of this size. Museums, the zoo and many other recreational things can be had here. And easy access off of I 64 makes it convenient.

So why only three stars? If you want to go to one place and do a variety of things, then Forest Park may be for you. But if you have limited time, there are better things in St.Louis to do. Because nothing here stands to be unique or remarkable. And while I am all about saving money, if I travel some distance, I want to experience different things.

I have been to much better museums and zoos. I realize timing is everything. Visiting on a Saturday may have been ill advised. But traffic was a complete nightmare. There may have been a variety of activities on tap at the park that day. But it took a geat deal of time to maneuver through the logistical mess. Parking was limited and you had to walk a great distance to get anywhere. It took over an hour to drive from one end of the park to the other.

I have been to many parks that I much preferred. Brackenridge Park in San Antonio has the same things and is much more manageable. And nicer for that matter. The city parks in Cincinnati or Common Grounds in Boston have much more character.

If I lived in St.Louis, I would love going here often. Knowing the best times to avoid the hassles. But if you are visiting, you may want to reconsider investing so much time here. A better version may likely be closer to home.

“Lots to do here!”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

Liked that it is so big and encompassed many free and low cost activities. One negative is that it is very busy here all the time. Large events are often held here and things get congested.

“Take the Segways!”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

Among the other great things about this park (just about endless), you can take a tour of the park via Segway! Sign-up in the St. Louis Science Center (the part of the building south of the interstate within Forest Park).

“Excellent...what a treasure!!!”
Reviewed April 21, 2014

We visited parts of Forest Park as we walked from the train station to the zoo, and we both commented that we would like to go back with the sole purpose of exploring the park.

This park is such a treasure to the city. And it was so nice to see so many people out enjoying it. We went on a nice Saturday in April and saw people out running, biking, walking, playing Frisbee, walking dogs, using the paddleboats, and having picnics. The park itself is beautifully landscaped and well-maintained. The walking trails appeared to be relatively new, and the ponds/water fountains were clean.

Within the part are several items of interest including zoos and museums, many of which are free.
We definitely felt safe in the park. As for a timeframe, I think you could spend a whole day here and not get board, but if you are just doing the park, I think you could the general idea of it in a couple of hours.
