“St. Louis institution”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

Ted Drewes is a St Louis institution that has stood the test of time since the early 1900’s. Their frozen custard is the main attraction and boy is it good. There are many combinations of sundaes however their “concretes” (thick shake) is what they are known for. I have seen them actually turn the cup upside down prior to handing it to you. Our favorite is the fruit (banana or strawberry) and chip combo.

The portions are large and the lines move relatively fast. Don’t be surprised if you see 100’s of people all over the place eating their treats. There are benches and garbage cans all over as the neighbors must have learned over time what goes on when they are closed.

It is definitely worth a trip and a must try if you are in St. Louis.

“FANTASTIC ice cream in a place you wouldn't expect”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

We ate here as part of our Route 66 Man Vs Food tour this Summer.

Ted Drewe's is a must visit. The ice cream is so creamy and smooth - it's not like anything I've had before and I've visited Rome and eaten their gelato. I had a praline and chocolate and it was genuinely the best ice cream I've had.

To show just how much of an institution Ted Drewe's is, we visited on a Tuesday evening in the pouring rain around 7:30pm and there was still a long queue!

“Great place for custard, friends and family!”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

This place is just full history and good custard. Too many flavors to count, and too many toppings to list. There is something for everyone, whether you like it plain or with toppings galore - candy, fruit, syrups, you name it. This place is busy, but the line moves quick. No tables, it's more or less "tailgate" style. Well lit parking, so dining at night is safe.

“always a treat”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

Went to the Ted Drewes on Chippewa---lines were around the block! Drove to the South Grand store. Fewer persons and quick service. As always, the Concretes were delicious! Don't skip this St Louis landmark!

“Nostalgic 66 concrete, worth the stop.”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

TAdvisor and AAA rated this worth a stop and they were right for getting a concrete cup of the 66 hype. My husband was leery since he never had frozen custard, but he really liked his double scoop of two different flavors. I got a single cup of the concrete also, and it was creamy and good. They had over 30 flavors so it was hard deciding. My husband also purchased two shirts from here, and he had a nice talk with another man into the same type of music as he is.
Drewes was more than just hype without substance. We recommend you try your favorite flavor in the concrete, sit outside and enjoy it. We were fortunate the lines were only about five deep and service was quick. We definitely would stop here again.
