Never had been to Jimmy's on the Park in DeMun but saw a happy hour ad for $5 martini's and half off certain appetizers...so I went with a friend on a Wednesday night. We arrived around 5:15 and were some of the first happy hour patrons to arrive.

Starting this review with a comment about seating. The restaurant is split by a banquette in the bar area to the right as you walk in, and dining area to the left. My friend sat on the banquette, and I sat on a ottoman seat (which I regretted about 1/2 hour into the visit for lack of back support.) The seat issue became more clear when more happy hour patrons arrived and sat at the bar in high backed bar chairs...so banquette and bar seat folks happy, ottoman folks not so much. However, there is a nice ambience in the vaguely modern setting with abstract art work on the walls.

The happy hour drink selections for $5 were good - martini, cosmos, etc made with name brands rather than bar wells. Tasty, but a little watered down. The half off appetizers appear on a list by name but do not have descriptions - not a big deal, but folks with allergies or certain preferences should ask for a menu or description from the waiter. An example - we ordered the tenderloin flatbread - really yummy - but unexpectedly filled with garganzola. A better surprise was the calamari suggested by our waitperson - really fresh and tender, fried expertly - and a surprise of flash fried spinach on top (which is another stand alone appetizer by itself as well.) Comes with a saffron aioli, a mayo with very little saffron. Food quality was good, so looked at their regular menu with a thought of coming back (prices seem really high.)

We had dinner on a Sunday night. The atmosphere and the service were excellent. The flash-fried spinach appetizer was crunchy and delicious. The little touch of lemon juice was just the right addition. The shrimp/artichoke//risotto entree was good and not too heavy. Dessert was an excellent chocolate creme brûlée. The restaurant is on a charming, quiet street and parking wasn't a problem.

We planned a recent Cardinals/Jimmy's combo day with an afternoon day game at Busch, and then a trip to Clayton for the Sunday Night price fixe menu.

It wasn't a busy night, so the atmosphere was pretty generic, but we were happy to have a corner of the restaurant to ourselves.

We enjoyed the pace of the courses, and the quality of each was very good.

I could compliment a everything about the meal, but two dishes stood out:

Main Course: Polenta Chicken.....probably the best chicken dish I've had. Flavor was outstanding.

Dessert: Bread Pudding: This is a different take on bread pudding from the norm, and the sauce is perfect.

We felt like the value for the Sunday night menu was outstanding, and we would definitely go more if we lived closer. Highly recommended.

Great happy hour every time. Calamari and fried spinach is wonderful, as well as their flat bread! Drinks are made just right and not made weaker due to Happy Hour prices. Stay late and enjoy a wonderful dinner. Fish cooked perfect and try any of the nightly specials, perfect! We also come to have our favorite waiter assist us, Stephen. He is a joy, attentive and so very funny! We look forward to our every visit!
