A group of 4 of us had a wonderful dinner the other night at Charlie Gitto's. Three of the four were 100% italian, my father in law is actually from Italy, so this was a tough group of critics, but everything about our evening passed with flying colors! We had a reservation, and were seated promptly the minute we walked in the door. We started with toasted ravioli for the table, moved to several pasta dishes to be shared, and then order 3 different veal dishes, and all of these were excellent! The portions were generous, but not overwhleming, especially when shared. We finished with an excellent cannoli. The wine list was extensive, but there are excellent affordable choices. The service was excellent, overall a great dining experience Italian Style!!

We had a party of 10, and there were several other large groups in the house the night we were dining. One waiter was tasked with serving 4 groups, all over 10 people. It was a bit much. For instance, when dessert menus were passed out, about 20 minutes passed until he came back to get our order. Several in our group might have wanted to order dessert at first, but by the time he got around to us, we just wanted to leave. He presented us with the bill...and disappeared again. We finally had to track him down to get the bill paid. It was very frustrating.

However, the food was very good. Calamari appetizer with a spicy citrus sauce was especially good. All of the entrees were really good, everyone liked theirs. Several of us had the beet salad, and it was really fresh with a nice arugula bite. The vinaigrette was light and not too acidic, with just a hint of garlic and basil. All of the other salads were great as well. The entrees ranged from Osso Bucco to Eggplant Parmesan, and all were fresh and nicely served. The red sauce was beeter than average, but not outstanding.

We sat in the LaSorda room and were by ourselves at a large round table, and that was very nice. The restaurant had a great old timey feel with the faint smell of dead cigars in the air. Some people wouldn't like that, we did as it added to the atmosphere. The location is unique, it is in a great part of town.

When our son was in college in St. Louis, this was one of our favorite places to go whenever we went to St. Louis to visit. The food has always been outstanding and the service is excellent. We recently returned to St. Louis for the first time in three years and this was where we wanted to go.
My husband and I started with the toasted ravioli which were delicious. My husband had the braised pork shank which was so tender that it slid off of the bone. I had one of the house specials, veal Nunzio which was tender and delicious. The food is fresh and cooked to perfection. The food was complimented by some of the best service I have had anywhere. The restaurant can get quite crowded, so be sure to make a reservation.

Nice setting for couples, friends,etc....we were a group of 6 & we were very well taken care of. Each of us ordered various dishes & we were all pleased with our selections. This spot was recommended to us & we were glad we listened.

Best Lasagna we've ever had! Wait staff was great!! My husband's family live close by so now we have a place we will take them instead of to the chain restaurants. We will be back!
