“Still great after all these years”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

I always loved the Reuben sandwiches when we lived in U City 15 years ago and it was still awesome! Larger space than long ago but with the same cool character, go eat enjoy!

“For a fun trip down memory lane, try Cafe Manhattan”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

Cafe Manhattan is a cool mix of diner fare, deli shop, and soda fountain all rolled into one! The decor is eclectic (everything from a gas pump to framed Elvis records and even figurines of Alvin and The Chipmunks populate the walls and shelves which surround the restaurant). Even the music is all vintage!

There is more than enough memorabilia to keep everyone in your party looking around the place until your shake or malt (one or the other is a must here at Cafe Manhattan!) is delivered to your table.

The menu includes a wide array of appetizers, burgers, soups, salads, sandwiches, and Italian specialties. Their house dressing is awesome, as are the homemade potato chips, and the 9" pizza/salad special is a real deal at $9.00!

I have been to Cafe Manhattan for a quick meal, a working dinner, and meeting friends after work, and it has been a perfect fit for each. The restaurant is nothing fancy, but they do basic food well... Especially the chocolate shakes!

“Sweet Nostalgia”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

Walking into the small diner is like taking a step back in time with the black and white tile floors and old-fashioned table and chairs. A lot of Coca-Cola decorations from days gone by were prominently displayed. Our waitress was quick and attentive. We had the Downtown Burger and Patty Melt. The burger was ordered medium well but was delivered more medium with a bit too much red for my taste. The Patty Melt was cooked to perfection. The fries were good and hot, not too salty. All in all, it was an enjoyable meal and would like to go back to try the pizza sometime!

“Pizza and old fashioned fun”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

We eat or carry out from CM at least once a month. Walking into the restaurant you would anticipate old time diner food. And indeed they have great sandwiches and pretty good burgers. But locals know CM (and Manhattan Express a block away) are really known for their excellent pizzas. We favor the standard st. louis style thin crust for our younger kids and the perfectly simultaneously chewy and crisp "new york style" thickess WHOLE Wheat crust.

Their house salad and special dressing is well known. We often substitute all romaine for the romaine/iceberg mix.

I concur with other reviewer that the burgers are just OK but other sandwhiches are great. Also, the pastas are a dark horse pleasure too.

have fun

“old fashioned soda fountain”
Reviewed June 28, 2012

Step back in time to an soda shop with a bar, chrome and vinyl boothes, and lota of vintage decor (Coke and Elvis mainly). The milk shakes were outstanding and they give you the extra blender cup. They offer all the old-time soda drinks (malt, floats, etc.). The burger was just ok, but the fries were good and the grilled turkey sandwich was quite tasty. A fun lunch place.
