“Closest to Chicago Style We Can Get--Worth it!”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

We have lived in St. Louis just about four years. That being said, we are not fans of the St. Louis style pizza (cracker thin, messy, and with not taste). Originally from the Chicago suburbs, it is hard to find a pizza with a thick crust. Well, look no more! We had been told about Blackthorn when we moved to STL and just had not gotten around to getting there. Nestled in St. Louis' Lafayette neighborhood, Blackthorn is not much to look at from the outside, but when you enter, you find an eclectic pizza pub perfect for a casual Friday night. The place is always packed and you will wait awhile for your pizza. However, it is totally worth it! We loaded our pizza up with veggies and it was fantastic. The cheese dripped from the top and need the signature Chicago style move of scrapping the cheese from the slice off the side of the plate with a spatula. Yum, perfection! They also have many local STL beers that you can choose from to accompany your pizza! Now, you can select from various crust sizes, but I prefer the thick Chicago style--you will not be disappointed here! So give Blackthorn a try! You will love it!

“Patience is a virtue...”
Reviewed June 24, 2012

But how long should one wait for food? It has been exactly two hours since I placed my order and the appetizer has just arrived. The restaraunt is not busy in the least bit and there is really no excuse for such poor service. The decór leaves much to be desired but perhaps it is their attempt of the bar scene. Albeit, the appetizer was rather good. I guess the pizza will be the deciding factor if I will return. That is, however, if it arrives before I take my business elsewhere.

“Great dive bar with Chicago style pizza!”
Reviewed June 13, 2012 via mobile

Like I said, this is a dive bar. A dive bar with great Chicago style pizza a great atmosphere and plenty of games. Our pizza took about 40 minutes but it was fantastic! No negatives to report. Decent beer prices and good garlic bread. The sauce for garlic bread and pizza were different but had a nice kick to them.

“Best non-thin crust pizza in St. Louis”
Reviewed June 8, 2012

This place is awesome. Shuffleboard, cheap PBR and a good tap selection for more refined beers. Oh, and the pizza is outstanding. It takes a while since they only cook up to two pizzas at a time, but the wait is worth it. Looks like a dirty dive bar, but it's a great experience.

“Nothing like it in town”
Reviewed April 7, 2012 via mobile

For a truly great pie, look no further than this classic South City dive. Give them an hour to make it, then enjoy some Chicago-style pizza in the heart of STL.
