Tucked into a quiet neighborhood, off the beaten track, with a corner location, and a lovely patio, Russell's is a secret spot you should get to know. Always busy, but attentive personnel, with counter service. You order, they bring it to you inside or outside on the patio. Everything is tasty and prepared freshly to order. Today I mentioned that I loved the substantial bread the grilled sandwich I had last time was made with, but that my mouth was tender from the crunch, and the server immediately said she knew exactly what I was saying, and they could cook it less crunchy...and they did. Delicious! Desserts are so tempting, but I never have room for them by the time I finish my lunch! Reasonably priced with a wide choice, and the coffee is fabulous...they have a new espresso machine, just today, and it's even better than it was! I had the iced latte, and it was yummy!

This is one of those places which just is full neighborhood charm. The inside ambience is so lovely. The photos on the wall were taken by the owner- talented all around. The porch and patio outdoors feels like a secret garden. The staff knows their stuff and service is tops. Great selection on menu for dinner. The desserts are simply deliciously phenomenal. All designed by young owner Russell. Our only disappointment was that coffee was not piping hot which we discussed with staff who are working on a plan to remedy this soon. We will be back again and again.

Ranging from sandwiches to smaller plates to larger plates, the menu had a wide enough range to please pretty much anyone. I had excellent crab cakes and a side of potatoes that was wonderful. The four of us shared a cheese plate which was on the expensive side ($14) but had a nice variety of cheeses and excellent "toast" for the cheese, along with some nuts and cherries. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Prices overall are moderate but the value was excellent. The service was "unhurried" but not bad. The atmosphere is quite informal.

If you haven't been to Russell's on Macklind, you're missing a real treat. It's located in a residential neighborhood, with lots of old brick houses and pretty front porches. The restaurant is in an old building with an eating area inside, outside on the deck (with plenty of fans) and a patio area. The food is very economical, quite delicious and they have great coffee. The desserts are probably the best I've eaten anywhere.

Russell's is tucked into a quiet south side neighborhood. It's predecessor,Murdoch Perk, was greatly mourned when it closed, but Russell has improved what was already a wonderful place. It is very casual (walk up, order, take a number and wait for food to be delivered) for most of the day, but offers table service for dinner. Try to catch a shaded table outside on a warm late spring evening. Anything from the standard menu will surprise and delight, but the chef's off menu specials are indeed special! I had a Carrot-Rosemary soup that had me begging for the recipe. The only problem with Russell's is for dieters - while waiting to order, one is surrounded by an outstanding selection of very tempting desserts. Don't even try to resist!!
