The Security Building is a landmark with a neat granite facade, but not much else to look at. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and features brick on its upper stories. If you’re going to see the Federal Reserve, you’ll be able to see this building too, as only a walkway separates the two architectural buildings. I recommend looking at the Security Building from across the street at the water fountain for the Mansion House building; that way you can get the full effect of the granite facade. Aside from that, there aren’t as many architectural details (like stone carvings and decorations) as I was hoping for. Going inside the building wasn’t an option at the time of my visit, as the entire first floor is vacant, with large “For lease” signs in the windows. Still, the exterior of the building is well maintained, and is a good visit for photographers and architecture buffs. For the more casual tourist, it’s easy to walk right by the Security Building unless you’re specifically looking for it. If you’re in downtown St. Louis anyway and have time to walk by it, it’s ok to see, but otherwise don’t sweat about bypassing this attraction.
