Crushed Red is located in what used to be an artist's supply store. Parking for about a dozen cars in the rear with additional lot and street parking nearby. The restaurant is casual and works on the sustainability theme. The menu is soups, salads and pizza (actually more of a pizzette (there are some really creative and tasty options readily available and be prepared to taste fresh herbs, veggies and more...or make your own). You order your meal at the beginning of the line and beverages at the end where you pay. An OK selection of beer and wine is available. Soda and Iced tea are self-serve, alcohol is brought to your table as is your meal. A long line can develop at luchtime but don't let it scare you away. The restaurant does not take an inside order unless there are seats available. Most (not all) patrons have picked up on this concept and do not linger when finished with their meal. Since this is almost a cafeteria format, don't expect to have wait staff swarming all over you. They are friendly and timely in delivering food/beverages to your table. The price is reasonable and the portions are ample...splitting a salad and a pizza on date night will leave both parties satisfied but not stuffed. There are NO dessert options...WHY?...Surely there must be a dessert that fits the "sustainable" theme. I have been to this reataurant about a dozen times in the last four months for quick business lunches as well as late evening dining after a play or movie. There is no change in the way they operate or the menu options. For me, it is one of the best options in Clayton...no yuppies, just folks who enjoy a tasty fare and aren't hung up on "the scene"...or being seen.
