I live just outside of Chicago, and attended a convention held at the Westin St. Louis. We (hubby and I) did not know what to expect (we have heard less than stellar reviews of the St. Louis area--and had just watched "National Lampoon's Vacation"), but the Westin was a nice surprise. After a loooong drive, we were met with a smile in the pouring rain by an unbrella-bearing doorman, who wisked us inside. We had elected to upgrade to the club floor for $40 additional per night. Check-in was quick, although I was surprised to find out that the lounge for the club-floor was located on a different floor than our room (we were on the 3rd floor, and the club lounge was located on the 4th).
Just walking through the hallways is an experience in itself. No dull, boring, long narrow hallways for the Westin--the hallways twist and turn, and go around corners and across glassed-in bridges. Definetely makes the walk to your room more interesting!
Our room was a good size, and featured the "heavenly bed" that the Westin is famous for. It was comfortable, and a notch above the normal hotel bed.
The bathroom was large, and the shower beautiful, with a seamless glass shower door and granite countertop. The fluffy robes in our room were missing--all that we found was a hanger with a hang-tag that gave instructions as to how to purchase the robe (we let the front desk knew we didn't take the robes--I had visions of receving a bill after checkout).
The really disturbing thing about the bathroom was the art on the wall above the tub that contained quotes about suicide and death. Not the most relaxing thing to read while soaking in your tub!
Food was average. There's only one restaurant, and room service serves pretty much the same stuff as the restaurant.
The hotel is located right next to the new Cardinal's stadium, and my sports-aware co-workers were extremely happy about that (there was a game that night). I met alot of families in the elevators that were there for the game, and they also raved about the convenience of the location.
All in all, if I'm in St. Louis again, I will stay at the Westin!
