“Don't Go Out of Your Way”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2011

The CWE is a trendy area with some very good dining options. They also have Bissingers and The Cup, which are great dessert options as well. The Chase Park Plaza is a great hotel and walking distance to the shops and dining.

That said, the previous reviee about parking is 100% accurate - parking is very difficult at busy times, and usually expensive (or results in a ticket).

Its a relatively safe area, but late weekend nights can be crowded with the college crowd. It is accessible to the Metrolink.

Overall, do not go out of your way to get here. If you are here for a hotel or another spefici reason, its worth a walk around and a visit to a few resturants or shops. But not worth going out of your way....

“Mediocre stores, overrated restaurants, terrible parking - do The Loop instead”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2011

The Central West End (CWE) is a trendy area of the city that runs from mid-town (in the East) to the hopsital and border of Forest Park (in the West) that aspires to be a cosmpolitan mecca of stores, restaurants, and bars.

First problem, is that what most consider the heart of the CWE (Maryland Plaza and Euclid) is *tiny*, a square block or maybe two. In that area, you have basically a handful of restaurants, clothing botiques, and speciality eateries (Bissingers Chocolate,. Cupcakery, buble tea place turned bar, etc) and not much else. And the parking situation is a complete mess, there are many times more people looking for spaces as there are parking spots to be had, so be prepared to park well away or circle around the block for 10-15 minutes minimum. Adding to the frustration is the large number of seemingly randomly placed "no parking" areas, most of which would be prime parking spots and seem to have no rational reason why the city decides to make them no parking zones.

Going south from the Maryland Plaza/Euclid area there are more restaurant options (India's Rasoi, Brassiere by Niche), but the same parking/congestion problems remain until you get well eastward in the CWE (e.g. along Lindell or Laclede) but this is a fairly dispersed area that does not lend itself well to walking and there's not really a lot to do until you're basically almost in mid-town and you can visit either Terrene or Cafe Ventana.

For an alternative, I'd highly recommend The Loop/Delmar instead. It's everything the CWE wishes it could be and more - highly walkable, far greater amount and variety of stores and restaurants, reasonable parking options, and IMHO a more diverse and down-to-earth crowd than you'll find in the CWE (read: less snooty yuppies).

“A Pleasant Saint Louis Neighborhood”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2004

I stayed in the Central West End of Saint Louis. I enjoyed this neighborhood very much. The public transportation in this neighborhood is very good(Metrolink and plenty of buses). Ther are plenty of restaurants in this neighborhood, especially on Euclid Avenue. Wonderful Forest Park is in this neighborhood.
