I just took my family to the symphony for the Fantasia program. It was fantastic! They had a large screen which projected parts of the Disney's original and Fantasia 2000 movies. Very nice evening.

We are so lucky to have one of the best symphonys in the country…and a fabulous conductor who is very innovative and involved with community events.

I've been covering the SLSO for some years now as the senior performing arts critic for a local radio station (viz. http://kdhx.org/play/chuck-lavazzi) and have rare seen a concert here that wasn't impressive. Maestro David Robertson has a good feel for what makes a balanced program and he clearly has an excellent relationship with the orchestra. Internationally known guest conductors and soloists perform here on a regular basis and the orchestra's special "one off" programs (including partnerships with Circus Flora and various movie events) always seem to pull large crowds. Fred Bronstein and the SLSO board have been very smart about building audiences and relationships with the community as a whole, which is likely a major reason why this orchestra has not faced some of the problems that have plagued more well known ensembles here in the USA. Powell Hall's acoustics are not alwayts ideal, especially for soloists, but neither are they an impediment to enjoying the fine music produced by this great orchestra. The bars in the lobby and on the mezzanine offer a nice selection of wine, cocktails, and snacks.

Unlike many city symphony orchestras there are no bad seats in the auditorium, there are no bad areas for the acoustics. You can often get good tickets on very short notice. I have listened to Symphonies all around the globe and can definitely say that Powell Hall {facility} as well as the St. Louis Symphony are in the top 2 or 3 in the world. The only downside is when the idiot in the box next to you forgets to turn off his rap music ringer on his phone. Rap and Symphony just don't go together.
