This is our first experience with Sunday brunch at Bixby's. The food was incredible. The place is so nice and sunny. We were seated by the window and enjoyed watching the people in Forest Park. The buffet was very good. I consisted of cold salad items, fresh fruit, warm items and desserts. Their salmon is just sublime, they smoke it themselves. They had more unusual cold salad items and a locally grown yellow watermelon that was great. I especially liked the beet salad. I like that they are using local produce. On top of the brunch one can order off a small menu with choices like eggs benedict(standard and tomato, for vegetarians); belgian waffles, bread pudding and omelets. The portions are smaller so you can sample more than one if one wishes. They make their own sodas too. We also received free champaign toast with the brunch. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. My husband did not receive the omelet he ordered but he chose to eat it anyway. It was good, he just felt bad that someone else received his instead. That said the service is lacking somewhat. Everyone seemed to be trying hard but just seemed lost at times. We were fine with that, it was just the two of use but......I would probably not like this if I were in a large group. Reservations are a must. Another good note is that you can enjoy the museum afterwards or walk around Forest Park.

Bixby's restaurant is open 11am-2pm for lunch but they have Bixby's Express available 10-4:30pm. We were there after 2pm so we had to eat at Bixby's Express. You have to order off the menu on the wall - there are no quick grab & go items other than cookies or bagels.

We had a panini & a quesadilla plus 2 sodas for $22. The food was pretty decent but the staff could have been much more polite.

We went here for Sunday brunch. The place was sunny and bright and the service was prompt and friendly. The buffet consisted of fresh fruits and pastries, bacon ,sausage etc. You order your main dish from the kitchen. Eggs benedict and pancakes were ordered at our table. Portions are average but there is ample selection from the buffet for any big breakfast eaters. Everything was fresh and constantly replenished. One nice thing about the location is that after your meal you can tour the museum. Totally enjoyable.

This was my second visit to Bixby's for Sunday brunch buffett and this time around the food is the only reason I am giving it 4 stars. The hostess did a nice presentation of the details of the menu and the fact that all food items are freshly prepared, but that is where the good service ended. Our server had to be flagged down for every request and seemed put out to be asked to provide anything. It is not that difficult to offer exceptional service when working buffet and a very small ala cart menu. The busperson did a better job of attending to our table and those of the patrons around us.

If you can handle sub-par service, go to Bixby's. The food really is good and it is a shame service does not match the standard.

Our first trip to Bixby was in the fall of 2011 for their Sunday brunch on my husband's birthday. We LOVED it. The food was wonderful. Our 10-year daughter has talked about the lemon bars every time she's seen a lemon since! The setting overlooking Forest Park is gorgeous and nearly all the seats have a window view. On a sunny, fall day, the beautiful fall colors of the hugs trees in Forest Park were an amazing backdrop to an outstanding meal. We tried to go back for Mother's Day, but didn't get our reservations in soon enough and they had filled up. We went back the Sunday following Mother's Day. We had reservations for 1:15, and weren't seated until about 10 minutes until 2. This seemed odd since we did make reservations, but they did appear busy. Unfortunately, once we were seated, no one came over to the table. We were quite hungry as we had planned to eat 45 minutes earlier, so one of us took our children (4 and 10) to the buffet line while the other stayed to give our drink order and order some of the brunch items that are custom made. Those of us who went to the buffet returned, still no wait staff. The other went to the buffet line, no wait staff. We were seeing wait staff, but they were apparently no seeing us. The manager was even in sight of our table chatting with some patrons who were leaving and also unhappy. A bus boy cleared the table right next to us. Unusual as the space is not a large space. We ultimated flagged someone down about 15 minutes after we were seated, gave her our drink order and ordered our other items. Our custom made omlettes and waffles arrived delivered by our waitress who apologized for not bringing drinks, but at this point, we still had nothing to drink - no even water. She finally returned with one pot of decaf coffee and said she would be right back with the regular coffee for my husband, but then did not return for 5 - 10 more minutes. He was nearly finished with his meal. She apologized again and said that they had to brew a new pot. We never received any refills. The food is truly amazing, but I'm concerned that between our experience and some of the other reviewers' experiences that this place will ultimately suffer as a result of poor service and poor management. They need to make some changes - and fast. When you are spending nearly $100 for Sunday brunch for a family of four, it is a special occassion kind of thing. You don't mind splurging sometimes for incredible food in a beautiful setting, but the awful service will make me think twice about returning unless I hear they have new management.
