Owner description: The Missouri Civil War Museum is housed in the old 1905 Jefferson Barracks Post Exchange (PX) and Gymnasium building, formerly part of the Jefferson Barracks military post, which is still an active military installation to this day. Renovations began in 2003, and were completed 10 years later in 2013, with an opening date of June 29, 2013. During the Civil War, the property which this museum is located upon, contained various hospital ward buildings, where suffering and death occurred, thus making this sacred ground, and a most appropriate location for a Missouri Civil War Museum, honoring our soldiers of the past and present.

We spent the afternoon here and were very impressed with the displays. The building has been remodeled, and it is hard to believe that it was built in 1905. They have done an amazing job, and anyone who has an interest in history will enjoy this museum. There is a small fee, but it is well worth the price of admission.

“Interesting museum, beautiful building!”
Reviewed April 1, 2014

I found this museum very engaging. The displays had many interesting items, coupled with just enough education to keep a non-history buff like me wanting to learn more. My two teenagers enjoyed it also. It is still growing, and I can't wait to return soon to see what they add. The restored building which houses the museum is absolutely beautiful. What a labor of love! It's worth going just to see it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. When you visit, spend some time driving through the cemetery at Jefferson Barracks.

“Nice friendly museum”
Reviewed March 31, 2014

A nice museum with friendly staff. It is in a historical building with an addition in the works. Presented well with videos and static displays that are done well. Nice gift shop that has a good assortment of flags, books and other items.

“Wonderful Start”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

The museum just recently opened. For it not to be funded by any tax dollars, it is an amazing place. They are still planning on expanding and already have the artifacts ready, just not the funding. I hope to visit again in a few years and see it has expanded as planned.
