“If you like Italian food...”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Eat here. Went there for lunch and we both had the lunch specials. Neither one of us were disappointed at all. Don't go there for dinner on Sunday night, as it's closed. The waiter was very nice, attentive but not bothersome. Would definitely go back.

“Very poor service”
Reviewed August 4, 2012

Went to dinner here for our aniversary and did not have the best of evenings. In a nutshell the service was horrible. After being seated it took no less than 15 minutes to get drinks. Our waiter could not get orders right and even failed to ask how we wanted steaks cooked. He took orders for more drinks and never came back. Manager then took over our table and he was even more incompetent. It took 20 minutes to get our check after asking three times. By the way the restaurant had only about a quarter of the tables occupied. Overall it was just a very poor experience. The food was decent but not worth what we paid. After finally getting our check the manager had the audacity to include a twenty percent tip. We will definitely not be going back.

“Great Italian fare even in Westport”
Reviewed August 3, 2012

This place is great. After an untimely death of owner John Mineo, wife Bridgett stepped in and stepped up the service and quality. She has delivered on all fronts. She seats and greets the guests and manages the whole place. Chef Benedetto is a classic italian star. The food expresses quality and care at every course. The seafood pasta and well dne to be sure. Visit here often.

“Very Good, but VERY Expensive”
Reviewed May 14, 2012

You could very well be looking at $75 here + tip. Know that going in.. the decor and atmosphere doesn't really compare to other high-end places. We dined here as a party of four. 3 of 4 had a ($9) glasses of wine.. 3 had salads ($7+ each).. our bill was $160 without tip. That's fine, but the food is similar to its old place, which I think was Marciano's.. it's good, but not as good as other places in St. Louis with similar prices (Eleven Eleven (pricing comparison only), LoRussos, etc.. ) I doubt we'd go here again. It was a nice atmosphere, but really expensive for what you get. This place does not have "hard to find" or very authentic Italian dishes which places on St. Louis Hill do.. It's unfair to compare this place to Hill restaurants, but their prices are higher (Paul Mineo's) than most Hill places. I don't think this place compares to Cunetto's, Trattoria Marcella, Brazies, but its pricing does.. actually, it might be higher. For the amount of money spent on this place's food, I don't think we'd return. We sat outside, which was nice.. the service was great. The people were nice. The manager visited twice to make sure everything is good. This place IS good. It could even be great. My suggestion: decrease the portions per dish and charge less. The portions are GIGANTIC and that's great, but you're talking $32 for salmon dishes without salads. This is on par with other STL places, but it would make more sense to shrink the portions down to 1-person (most people we saw left the place with leftover/boxed food).. and then charge maybe $25 for salmon.. it would still be expensive, but not brazenly so. I feel $160+tip for four warrants going to a nicer place such as Eleven Eleven, VindeSet, Sidney St, etc.. I also feel such a high price for Italian cuisine warrants Trattoria MArcella, LoRussos, C gittos, etc.. or Dominics (overrated). the people here are great. The service was great. It's just the money was quite high for what was gotten! I am a fan of bands and people playing, but the acoustic guy, with vox, was far too loud.. and he pretty much cleared the outdoor patio out. I don't care for when people recount trivial details like the latter--sorry, but if the management is reading this, I would suggest, next time, having an instrumental acoustic player (no vox) at a much lower volume. it would be far more tasteful for such a high $$$ meal (we could spend $160 for 4 at Tony's if we were frugal enough). The food was good, but not that great, to be honest. I wish this place well. I don't see it lasting.

“Excellent Service and Delicious Food in a restaurant with atmosphere”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

We were with a group of 20 who celebrated an event at the restaurant. The minute we walked to the door we were immediately greeted by a friendly staff member. We were very early for the reservation and were escorted to the bar to wait and have a drink. The bartender was great. They have several beers on tap, and a nice selection of both domestic and foreign beer.

They have several dinner specials and all were extremely good. We had a filet that was stuffed with seafood -- outstanding. The portions are not overly large but they're big enough that you don't go hungry. The waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful in selections. We did not try any desserts. Everyone in our group was happy with their selections and the service. We will definitely be back for a quiet dinner for two (or a loud group again!).

Recommendations: Go on a nice evening that you can sit outside. Nice outdoor patio for people watching. Try one of the specials, not what you would ordinarily order. You'll be happy you did. Try one of the seasonal beers on tap. Get reservations during the week -- it's not as crowded.
