This hotel was the PERECT choice for our little escape. We stayed a long weekend in September. The fact that the hotel is pet friendly was the deciding fact. Traveling with two large dogs is always difficult unless you want to go camping!!! Patrick at the Front Desk was great, greeted us with a smile and checked us in no time. I'm sure if the themed rooms are as comfortable as the regular rooms, they are well worth the money. Yes there is an issue with the bathroom light sensor, but there is a switch to make it stop, just call the front desk, they will let you know. We had dinner and drinks in the Fox and the Hound on Friday with live jazz music. The bartender Brian makes one of the best Marker's Mark Manhattan I have ever had! The fish and chips ROCK. Saturday was live music pool side, Kimmi made us amazing martinis. If you are on the fence, just DO IT. You won't want to leave on Monday morning!!!

Room Tip: Beds are super soft. PET FRIENDLY!!!!

I have enjoyed each visit to the Cheshire Inn. I feel like a member of the family. From the front desk to the staff at the Fox and Hounds everyone greets us with a smile. The rooms are clean and comfortable. I love the poolside bar!

From the outside I was a bit worried when I first arrived as it's still under remodel and it looked a bit like a hokey theme hotel. The lobby reinforced the theme concept which struck me as more for the zoo-going family crowd. Not a business guy like me here to give a lecture at Washington University. The lobby was clean and all the usual business hotel amenities were right there opposite the front desk - free coffee, flavored water, oatmeal on the run and USA Today. There's a nice looking pub, very fast Internet access and complimentary breakfast.
Every room is themed after a famous British author and once you give in to the British manor house theme and just go with it, it quickly grows on you. I got the Emma Orczy room and it was a very well appointed business hotel room. The theme was subtle, the book she is most known for, The Scarlet Pimpernel, was on the side table and there were writing themed art on the walls. Otherwise it could have been a Marriott or Hyatt.
The best part of this hotel is definitely the location. It's right across the street from Forest Park housing all the museums and the zoo, and less than 1.5 miles from Washington University. As a runner, the Forest Park location couldn't have been better and if you need to get in some track work, the university has a fantastic track that is just about a mile away on Big Bend.
There are great restaurants within 5 miles of here and there's free parking under the hotel.
Overall, a very pleasant stay. Will definitely be back.

Room Tip: If you have a favorite classic British author be sure to ask for their room by name. There are sever...

Great value for money. We booked this on a whim while passing through St Louis to check out Wash U. It is located conveniently to the school and a park and short drive from downtown St Louis. The decor is old style British, the 17th century variety with antique furniture, yellowing (by design) pictures with large frames and stuffed furniture. Each room is named after a British writer and upon check-in you get a book mark with that writer's name! The rooms are decent sized and clean with minimal decorations but for a faux book case. There is a nice little tavern downstairs and bunch of computers etc. with free net access. The breakfast is free and pretty good. They have a large tea collection and the bags are truly a piece of art. We had fun.

Stayed two nights at the Cheshire. Air conditioning had an annoying rattle when the compressor ran. Fan runs all the time, which helped to hide the annoying rattle but still made it difficult to sleep. Fire alarm was pulled twice during the night (of course that is not the fault of the hotel). Great shower, bed was good.

After 2 nights in the Romeo & Juliet suite I know why they commited suicide. The hotel is virtually devoid of management. The hvac goes on about every 5 minutes and sounds like a thunder storm. The light in the wc is bright and motion controlled and it stays on long after you have departed so as to prevent you from returning to sleep.Someone pulled the fire alarm last night in the middle of the night and there was no speaker system to let you know it was a false alarm.
But, there is good news.....new rooms are coming on and I am sure there is no plan to improve the experience

This was our second stay at the Cheshire. We visit St. Louis several times a year and the Cheshire is our top place to stay. Almost every aspect of the hotel is a step ahead of others. Both times we stayed, the rooms were surperb. The beds have to be the most comfortable we have ever experienced. The rooms are quiet and the furnishings are way ahead of other hotels. The only suggestion I have is to ditch the automatic lights in the bathroom.

The breakfast was fantastic - many more options than other hotels. We had breakfast outside on the patio which was enjoyable.

During the first trip I walked around some of the neighborhoods. This time I rented a bike and rode around Forest Park.

All staff were friendly, especially the front desk staff. It seemed that everytime I went by the front desk I was met with a smile and had time for a enjoyable conversation.

We will return...
