We went on a Sunday, so they were not giving tours, and thus photo taking was similarly not allowed. The mass was beautiful. I bought the book on the cathedral's mosaics from the gift shop and we did our own impromptu tour. This is the largest collection of mosaic's in the northern hemisphere, so take your time. The Romanesque style architure really took my husband and I back to Rome. The mosaics were incredible. We also hit the mosaic's museum and crypts in the basement, near the men's restrooms. Thanks to Paul, our tour guide, we got a great tour of crypt, some great little known facts on the cathedral and had a general great chat - thank's Paul!

This place will take your breath away. You can not take the whole thing in at the same time. You will have to go at lest a couple of times. It is so over whelming. when any body have time please go there.

Impressive! Beautiful! Definitely a must tour stop when visiting. Call ahead for a guided tour to learn the history behind such magnificent works of art.

This is a working church. Please remember to give reverence.

It's free too!

Although on a smaller scale, the Basilica will remind you of some of the great cathedrals of Europe. Most of the mosaics are richly colored and detailed. Unfortunately, the more recent murals stand out like sore thumbs because they appear flat and cartoonish. Overall, though, the Basilica is well worth a visit and has many appealing surfaces whose artistry is evident.

If you're looking for a great 20-minute stop, we would highly recommend this basilica. The parking is great, and we were able to park right outside the door. The basilica has the largest collection of mosaic tiles in the world, and the ceilings are works of art.
