I love the tour and the masses. If you are going to sit in on a mass then sit in the side isles if the incense bothers you. You have to go back multiple times to get the whole effect. It is amazing.

The few modern mosaics are worse than pedestrian, but 90% of the interior is covered with glittering mosaics that are a must-see

For 10 years I lived one block from this amazingly beautiful church. I was a regular usher for the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass and my wife and I were married here. It is simply a stunning church on par with the great European churches. You can get an idea of its beauty from the website, but please make this a priority when visiting St. Louis. I would recommend the 10:00 Sunday service because you will have the choir and they are worth hearing. Professional quality. After Mass you can have late breakfast/lunch at one of the restaurants on Euclid Avenue, which is a couple of blocks away. Take time to see the beautiful turn of the century homes on the streets of the Central West End and if it is nice weather plan on getting in exercise in Forest Park, which was the site of the 1904 World's Fair. The Missouri History Musuem is in the park as well. You could have a great day in the Central West End. I live in the Los Angeles area now and still miss my old neighborhood. The church is unlike anything you will find in the U.S.

Designed after the Westminster RC Cathedral in London, the New Cathedral is massive, beautiful and unique, with mosaics covering every inch of ceiling space.

We were, unfortunately, very close to closing time at the Basilica but so glad we spent even 15 minutes there. We have 3 boys, ages 8,11 and 13. They were pretty impressed by the grand scale of the cathedral and with all the different nooks and crannies. Fifteen minutes may have been just enough time for them (they might have tried to jump over the pews if given any more time). Totally amazing architecture and art. Great place for taking pictures!
