Reviewed June 4, 2012

We stayed here with friends the first weekend in June, to visit the amazing Missouri Botanical Garden Lantern Festival show (which runs til Aug. 19). Although this location is away from downtown in the Central West End neighborhood, it is very well located to visit the Garden, only a mile or two away. It is also close to "The Hill" which is the Italian neighborhood, with lots of Italian restaurants. The CWE neighborhood is very pleasant, with big old houses, big trees, and areas of good restaurants and shops within walking distance from the hotel. It is across a busy street from a very large park (w/zoo, concert hall, museum, etc.) called Forest Park. So there are many opportunities to stroll, walk, run, etc.

The hotel itself is huge, with swimming pool, outside terrace seating for the pool & hotel bar, at least 3 movie theaters, and the usual hotel ballrooms, conference rooms & restaurants (can't review those as we ate elsewhere). We qualified for government rates, which were significantly less than the pretty steep rack rates, so it pays to look to see if you qualify for discounts.

Service at the desk was prompt and cheerful, and valet parkers were good. Our room, 324, was the last "park view" room, but being on the 3rd floor, looked over a roof top with air handlers, etc. No matter, since we were on our way to the Botanical Garden for greenery anyway. One problem with our room, and also our friends' room, was that retrofitting an old-fashioned size room with a king bed AND about a 4' high big honking credenza/armoire made the passageway between the foot of the bed and the credenza very narrow, with a sharp corner just waiting to catch you in the middle of the night. On the other hand, our bathroom was a generous size, updated and well equipped. It was very quiet and the bed was comfortable.

One strange incident was that at 12:30 at night, two maintenance persons came down the hall, talking loudly and with their walkie-talkie squawking very loud for some minutes -- it would have awakened me if I had been asleep. I can't imagine that is a good policy for a hotel. However, that was the only negative incident.

We would stay there again if in St. Louis.

Room Tip: Be aware that 3rd floor rooms on the park side may overlook a roof with air handlers.

A big thank you for the wonderful review of the Chase Park Plaza and all that we have to offer our guests.

It appears that you have a fun filled schedule while in town and had the opportunity to take in the Botanical Gardens with the amazing Lantern Festival which is such a huge attraction for St. Louis. I'm glad to hear that our central location was convenient for your weekend activities.

I have passed along your comments to our team especially focusing on the noise issue, the one night so that we can ensure that this does not happen again.

Once again thank you, and we truely appreciate you spending your weekend at the Chase.

Better than being at home especially since I have been there more than home this year. They always go out of their way to make it a great experience. Don't forget to see the great bartenders in CafeO.

Room Tip: Any of the 35 rooms are awesome. The best two are 935 and 435.

Very elegant and fine place. However, there are hidden costs
For example, I bought the $15/person package. It isnt a package, however, it is just a credit towards your breakfast bill. Also, I push the phone button for direct connection to the cinema and got charged $1.50 local for a local call.

Waiters at the Tenderloin Restaurant were pushy and rushed the meal. Food, however, was decent.

The rooms are very clean and very quiet. The beds are super comfortable. The rooms get really dark if you like sleeping in the dark. The shower has great water pressure. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The food is yummy at all of the on-site restaurants (pool side, eau cafe and eau bistro). It's amazing to sit by the pool, and, even on a very hot St. Louis summer day, the placement of the pool in between two tall parts of the building makes it never very hot there. It's hard to believe until you experience it. The pool is beautiful and just the right temperature. There are lots of restaurants near by to walk to (Bar Italia, Oh Crepes, Scape, just to name a few greats) and having a movie theatre on site makes it fun, too. There is a grocery store just next door which is also very convenient. We love to stay at The Chase. It's our favorite get away location.

Room Tip: The rooms in the park plaza residence side that face north or east are big and quiet.

It wasn't far from the airport. I loved that it was walking distance for shopping and great restaurants. We didn't have to take the car out of valet. We didn't end up eating at the pool restaurant, but the buffet looked like it had been sitting out a while. The hotel lobby and rooms are beautiful and there's a movie theater within the lobby. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: We loved having a balcony that opened up to a nice view.

I am so happy that you enjoyed your recent stay at the Chase and had an opportunity to take in the Central West End. Our location is ideal with everything so close and within walking distance.

I hope that when you return to St. Louis that you will stay with us again and perhaps have the chance to take in a movie.

Thank you again.

Very nice and clean hotel with friendly staff. Rooms were very roomy with the exception of bathroom which is very small, single sink with barely enough counter space to accomodate a shaving kit. The key situation to access the floors was a little confusing as well, saw lots of people needing help.
