“We don't "get" the complaints!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2013

It seems to come as a surprise to many tourists, who visit the Arch that the wonderful Museum of Westward Expansion is located below the Arch.

We have greatly enjoyed this attraction for years. In a post 9.11 world, expect security. Try Frankfurt airport, or any airport in China. We simply do not “get” the complaints of some folks.

The Museum of Westward Expansion is logical to have under the Arch, and well worth a visit. We always view the Museum of Westward Expansion as an added bonus!

A great museum, full of lovely large scenic screens, animated figures, each telling you there story, and a wide range of subject matter.

“A must visit !”

The museum is fabulous with plaques, stories, dioramas, stuffed animals, U.S. timeline, the Lewis and Clark story, medals, living quarters , etc. There is something for all ages to see. Museum is free and is located under the Gateway Arch through north or south entrance. For a fee, there is a tram to the top, movie , etc. Since museum is run by national park service , if you have a card, you get price reduction. There is also a nice gift shop and a small restaurant. Enjoy!

“A Natural History of the West”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2013

As other reviewers have noted, once you get past the airport like security checkpoint, the underground complex of the Arch is modern and remarkable. Tickets counters are here, a reproduction general store, a "junk shop, " the free movie about how and why the Arch was constructed, and the wonderful museum which is also free. There are several lifesize prairie animals on display - a horse, a buffalo, a steer, and a bear. This is in a large area and you can walk right up to the exhibits, they aren't behind glass. There are also native artifacts and a reproduction teepee displayed with a ranger who told stories and played a flute. Very relaxing.

“Very nice.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2013

This museum is free and is located underground beneath the famous Arch. Very nicely done, and gives a history of 1800s Western Expansion and more. Check it out if you are visiting the arch. No reason not to.
