Owner description: Don't take the name so literally. We're about fun. Not your white walls, walk around, and be quiet museum. If you want to climb around, get active with your kids or are a big kid at heart, we're the place. If you get freaked out easily, you might not want to come. We're four floors filled with miles of tunnels, a full cave system, over 30 slides, a circus, an arts area, a large outdoor climbing space, Architectural Museum, a Cabin that serves adult beverages, a Museum of Mayhem, Mirth and Mystery, and a ton more. Also, there's the roof with a Ferris Wheel and a bus hanging off its edge.
Useful Information: Activities for young children, Activities for older children

Do not know how to best describe the City Museum. It is really more like an indoor/outdoor amusement park. Everyone from 5 yo on up would enjoy some aspect of the City museum. Best to go online for a full description of what to empect.

On a visit to St. Louis, DO NOT miss the City Museum. Invented by artist/entrepreneur/creative visionary Bob Cassily. This place rocks with energy! Everything here is available to touch, feel, and climb. Using an old but substantial downtown warehouse as his canvas, and architectural treasures from the past, present and future (?) as the paint, Cassily created one of the most facinating venues in the country. Climb on and into an airplane suspended 50 ' in the air. crawl in concrete tunnels woven thoughout the building (better tell your kids where to meet up after they lose you), go to the roof for a ride on the Really High merry-go-round, or enjoy beautiful old stained glass windows intersperced with building gargoyles displayed in a quiet room. It's a guarantee that you have never seen anything as eclectic or fun as the City Museum in St. Louis. Enjoy!

This is a very unique place to take kids, even teenagers. Around every turn is something different, a new adventure. I love the eclectic feel of this building and how they honor architecture.

Amazing place to visit. Be prepared by wearing tennis shoes. Not for the faint of heart. Very beautiful architecture. Kids will have a blast and so will the adults. Be aware there is lots of climbing and crawling! Love this place but very crowded at times. I suggest going when its warm outside and a week day

Though the entrance fee might be considered a little steep at $12, to me that is worth every penny. The City Museum is nothing like any museum I've ever seen before. It is a playground for kids of all ages, and an extremely artistic and imaginative space! The sights you will see here are unlike anything you will find elsewhere. Kids and adults of all ages will be amazed at this place! One thing I think appeals to some is the element of "danger" which you can choose whether or not you are going to climb across that wire mesh tunnel... the urban feel of the place, the unusual things you will get to see (world's largest pencil, world's largest pair of underwear). Everything around you is a sculpted work of art. Absolute must-see for all ages. I think there is a discount after 5:00pm. They used to "turn the lights out" at 11:00pm on Saturday nights. Of course, not ALL the lights go out! But enough lights are turned off to make it a cool experience like you are lucky enough to be there "after hours". Just extremely interesting!
