“Nice, but not exciting”

Is this a last free to visit place in STL , except the Arc? Is it two for one combo? I was hugry, so the only memories is waiting for a restaraunt around to get some place.

“Disappointed”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

We enjoy sculpture, but found a lot of what we saw to be too abstract and too large. Sometimes less is more.

Agree with other reviewers that it is a delightfully wooded park but very large and to see it requires quite a bit of time which a lot of visitors may not have if they wish to see some of the many other things St Louis has to offer.

“World Class Sculpture in a Sylvan Setting”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

Laumeier is a modern, abstract, outdoor sculpture museum. Right off the bat that means it's not for everyone. If you don't care for art or if you hate abstract art then the place will bug you. If, however, you love art or you're just ambivalent about it you can still love this park. It's a huge, rolling, forested park with miles of paths that wind through woods, meadows, and lawns. There are no restrictions on touching the sculpture --in fact, visitors are encouraged to walk over, through, and around several sculptures-- and kids are free to scamper, clamber & climb all over the exhibits. It is an amazing resource to enable kids to learn about and interact with world class art. There are also picnic tables and plenty of open space to throw Frisbees, and play football or soccer. It is a nice romantic getaway no more than 20 mins away from almost any neighborhood in St. Louis. And it's FREE.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

We had been traveling thru the midwest for a couple of days before staying in St. Louis for a long weekend, so part of the appeal for this park might just to have been outside, walking, enjoying nature, etc. We didn't really know what to expect, although our group of textile artists was highly enthusiastic about interacting with new mediums and sculpture. WOW! What a great park - a real gem in the St. Louis area. Beautiful, spring day - beautiful art - what's NOT to love? We had interesting discussions about what some of the sculptures represented, what the artists were trying to say, and what possibly influenced them. One in our group does not particularly enjoy "modern art" in most forms, and the park was no exception. While we could all enjoy the setting, and most of us ooh-aaahhed over the sculpture, the one who doesn't like modern art could not be swayed. To her, a lot of the sculptures were mundane or just did not represent anything she could relate to. For the rest of us...time well spent! If you are anywhere in the area, STOP IN and enjoy this lush, interesting and beautiful place. Lots of walking, so wear comfortable shoes.

“Beautiful setting for special sculptures”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

Really interesting works, mainly abstract expressionist but wiitn new artists interspersed. The park is of an entirely manageable size for all ages, with extra diversions of woodland trails if desired; I was there on a cool grayish day and loved the lush green of a St. Louis spring morning. A stimulating outing.
