“Great Zoo”
Reviewed September 25, 2010

get there as soon as they open, free parking if you get there soon enough, other wise you'll pay to park in the parking lot, and the first hour pet the stingrays for free! We bought the $10 ea. safari pass for $9 ea. with our $1 off coupon. It includes the train, carousel, motion simulator, Emerson children's zoo, and sea lion show, which we really wanted to see, but they informed us that was only sat. and sun. and we were there on fri. so no sea lion show.

“Best zoo I've ever been to!”
Reviewed September 16, 2010

What a great place to take your family. If you arrive within an hour of opening many of the things you'd have to pay for are free. We arrived just before the zoo opened & were surprised to find that the parking that is normally $11 was free. As soon as the zoo opened we went to the children's zoo (normally costs $ but was free for first hour) where we petted goats.
The penguin/puffin house was great! I've never been to one where you can get so close to the animals. This was true of the whole zoo.
We were able to cover a good part of the zoo for the 3 hours we were there thanks to the train. Tickets were $5 each but allowed you to get off in each section of the zoo and board again to travel to the next section.

“Can't believe it was free- wonderful zoo.”
Reviewed August 23, 2010

We set out to have a low cost day after spending, spending, spending on attractions in St. Louis. I have to admit my expectations were low since it's a free zoo.

By far this is the best zoo I've ever visited. Don't miss it! I still can not believe it was free.

“Better than expected!”
Reviewed August 18, 2010

This zoo is better than our hometown zoo, AND this zoo is FREE. Our hometown zoo is not. There were more attractions than expected. It was clean and well laid out. There were very few empty exhibits. In the first hour of opening you can pet the stingrays, go to the children's zoo, and ride the carousel for FREE, also. Like other free attractions, admission is free, but there are additional activities that cost but only a few dollars. However, we showed up 30 minutes after opening, and we were able to pet the stingrays and ride the carousel without additional costs. Food is expensive, but you are able to bring your own food & drink into the park. Expect to see animals you may have never seen before, especially at a zoo (vs. the Animal Planet channel). The souvenirs were reasonably priced in contrast to the food. Our favorite exhibit was the penguins. There are penguins outside, and then you walk into a VERY cold building to see more penguins swimming so close you can actually touch them...great picture moments. Something I loved about this zoo, also, was the people walking around wearing sashes (I think they were volunteers but could have been employees). These people always had fascinating information about the animals and would take the time to engage you in conversation.

“Exceeded our Expectations”
Reviewed August 16, 2010

Our family visited the Zoo in July 2010 and we were quite impressed. We have visited several zoos across the country and did not expect much from a "free" zoo. We were quite suprised with the facility. It was much bigger than we expected and the animals were actually out. We loved the Penguin exhibit which was not behind glass like most zoos and it was a great place to cool off. We also enjoyed watching the hippos swimming underwater. We paid to see the Sea Lion Show, which was OK. Overall, our kids really enjoyed the variety of animals at the zoo and the fact that they were actually out in the open.
