“Lions, and Tigers, and Bears, Oh My”
Reviewed May 8, 2014

One of the only free zoos in the country the St. Louis Zoo makes a lovely destination for those who want to flee the bustle of the city. I especially liked the insects and the snakes. I was a little large for the zoo tram but managed to squeeze myself into a car for the trip around the perimeter. It's a good way to get the lay of the land and make sure you see what you want to in an orderly manner. The tram does cost a little but is well worth it. The friendliness of each volunteer helping with the tram is worth noting. Mostly of retirement age, I couldn't tell if they were paid or volunteer. Each seemed to like being at the zoo in train engineer garb. We went early on a cool day and the outside animals were very active.

“Can't get much better for free!”
Reviewed May 8, 2014

The St. Louis Zoo is one of the best in the country, it's almost hard to believe it's still free! There are so many exhibits and animals to see. Be sure to pet the sting rays at Caribbean Cove (small fee, but totally worth it!) The new sea lion exhibit is spectacular.. we could have spent all day watching them swim around. Very awesome zoo!!

“Best Zoo in the nation”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

The St. Louis zoo is certainly the best in the nation. There is no cost for entering this zoo. There are areas of the zoo that do have a modest admissions but most of the zoo is accessible without spending a nickel.

Beyond the fact that there is no cost for entry, this zoo is amazing. The physical beauty and diversity of animals is on par with the San Diego zoo but easier to navigate. The St. Louis to is on the edge of Forest Park which is a beautiful heart full of attractions and history.

If you love animals, zoos, have children or your just looking for a way to enjoy a nice day, don't miss this world class attraction.

“Great Zoo and even better, admission is free.”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

One of the great things about St Louis is the amount of free things to do and the zoo falls into that category. It is a fairly large zoo, lots of animals, some very beautiful buildings, and some neat history surrounding the park around it.
My two teens and I spent a very pleasant morning taking it all in. We loved the monkeys and big cats. The lemurs were amusing with their antics and some of the orangutans put on quiet the show. The butterfly exhibit was pretty amazing. Definitely worth your time and you can't beat the price.
Parking can be either tricky or expensive. There is limited street parking near the zoo but it can fill up quickly. Paid parking is $15 a day. You can, however, park at the Forest Park visitor center and purchase a trolley pass. $2 a person with on and off privileges all day for the day of purchase. It goes between all of the major points of interest inside the park, including all the free museums. All in all, a great way to spend some time with your family.
