My husband and I have visited the Arch a couple times while traveling, but never went to the top until a few days ago. The ride to the top is not too bad, but the trams are very small. Everyone should take the ride to the top at least once. But I don't think we will do it again unless we had friends or family that wanted to do it. Nice view of Busch Stadium and downtown. Would be very pretty at night. A little stuffy and cramped at the top. Windows are small, but good view.

It towers over Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, and many more! Long line to get inside during August but at least it moves along at a good pace. Be prepared to go thru a kind of airport search before you get in --understandable. No wheelchair ramp, nor escalator, nor elevator folks --- a few stairs and a bit of standing and then you're shuffled 5 people per cramped pod in order to reach the top. They dont want you taking pix in the pod either but the same type of pod is located below in the lobby so you can take the pix there. Lady was there with a cane and stood in the long line, only to get to a point where she had to turn around and go back because it was too many stairs so if you can't be on your feet a long time, pass this up. Looking out windows at top, you can see a view that is magnificent of course and you're glad you went up. They let you stay up there as long as you want which is great. You'll want to take quite a bit of photos while there. Coming back down, other options within the Gateway Arch building on first floor is a great museum and an Imax type theatre showing a great film for Lewis and Clark lovers...also a few rangers doing exhibits when we were there and the typical gift shop stores. Drinks inside in machine in building for about 2 bucks. No place purchase food that I can recall unless you bought candy out of the gift shop stores--you'd have to go to the very nearby Riverboat down the stairs and docked on the Mississippi River to get something to eat. Don't forget to go see that great statue "The Captains Return" which previously was underwater when the Mississippi flooded..its a superb great statue of Captains Lewis and Clark and Seaman, Lewis's dog. It is superb! All in all, you'll be glad you went up in the Arch though, so for you queasy folks, dont worry. You're up there before you know it and it doesnt go super fast to get you up there--just a nice pace going up and back down-- although you will be kinda crunched in that lil pod that you ride up in..but the view at the top will make it all worth it! And then you can say...I've been in the top of the tallest building in our great nation! And take a pix by the '630 feet sign' when you get to the top to prove it!

We visited the Arch on the Friday of Labor Day weekend. We booked ahead but it wasnt necessary. The place wasnt busy at all. We stayed for a movie and to check out the meuseum. No waiting to go up in the tram from 8:10 am until 10:30- probably longer. We stopped by the night before at about 6pm. we had the place to ourselves! Very cool-must do once in your life!

With St Louis being a stop for me in the summer time, I always have guests with me that have me that have never been to the Gateway Arch. Despite being a resident of Chicago, I am the unofficial tour guide for my guests when they are in St Louis when I am visiting as well. When doing the Arch, ALWAYS pay for the package that includes the ride to the top of the Arch AND a movie. There are two movies from which to choose...one a documentary on how the Arch was built and the other how Lewis and Clark opened the west through St Louis. You can't lose with either one, although the latter one is my favorite. To save time, enter through the south entrance. This side is NEVER crowded since it is farthest from the parking facility, but the long lines on the north side (closest to the parking lot) is at least 20-30 minutes long at times. The south side will allow you to walk through security in a couple minutes. Plan on about a 90 minute stay there to take in the movie, the Tram ride to the top and viewing the museum the site offers.

The Arch is beautiful, especially at night. Its size is massive. The lines and wait to ride to the top are very long. We waited 90 minutes for our time, and then waited even longer once our group was ready. The trams that are used to get to the top are small, yet pretty cool. The views at the top were a little disappointing. It was very stuffy and crowded on top. I'm glad we did it, but probably would never do it again.
