Attraction details
Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: The Museum of Westward Expansion closed, pending installation of all new museum exhibits. As of March 2, 2015, entry-only ticket or tram ticket required to enter Arch. The nation's tallest monument at 630 feet, the Gateway Arch has beckoned visitors since June 1967. The Gateway Arch commemorates Thomas Jefferson and the role St. Louis played in the westward expansion of the United States. A visit to St. Louis isn't complete without standing at the Arch's base and playing professional photographer, but the view from the outside is only half of the experience. Attractions within the Arch include the Journey to the Top (the last tram leaves one hour before closing); educational programs (will be housed at the Old Courthouse); award-winning documentary movie, Monument to the Dream; and a gift shop. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Note: the address shown is for the Old Courthouse which is acting as the Gateway Arch Ticketing and Visitor Center throughout construction. Pedestrian entrance to the Arch Grounds is at Walnut Street at Memorial Drive or via the Grand Staircase from the riverfront.

I was so sad I could not go up in the Arch but I got there too late. This is a wonderful marvel, truly a must visit and the parks staff were wonderful.

“The amazing Arch in St. Louis”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

The Arch Tour is really fun and well worth the time and money, the view is breath taking. Very high so hopefully not afraid of heights, very safe.

“A must do”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

Exhibits line the wait to get into the arch, so the time passes failry quickly. the pods to get up to the top were small, but exciting for my boys (6 and 7) A must do in St. Louis.

“Wow! ...”

I didn't get to spend much time there nor did I get to go up to the observation deck. Yet, just being there, staring at it, was enough to convey the awesomeness of this landmark.

“Great and a must in STL.”
Reviewed March 12, 2013

My husband's first time and my second time up the arch. It was snowy and pretty to see from 630 feet in the air. The only real downside was that the mercantile shop which sold traditional and old fashioned items could have been better stocked with some more variety. Also the museum has seen better days with some portions need some work.
