Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: The Museum of Westward Expansion closed, pending installation of all new museum exhibits. As of March 2, 2015, entry-only ticket or tram ticket required to enter Arch. The nation's tallest monument at 630 feet, the Gateway Arch has beckoned visitors since June 1967. The Gateway Arch commemorates Thomas Jefferson and the role St. Louis played in the westward expansion of the United States. A visit to St. Louis isn't complete without standing at the Arch's base and playing professional photographer, but the view from the outside is only half of the experience. Attractions within the Arch include the Journey to the Top (the last tram leaves one hour before closing); educational programs (will be housed at the Old Courthouse); award-winning documentary movie, Monument to the Dream; and a gift shop. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Note: the address shown is for the Old Courthouse which is acting as the Gateway Arch Ticketing and Visitor Center throughout construction. Pedestrian entrance to the Arch Grounds is at Walnut Street at Memorial Drive or via the Grand Staircase from the riverfront.

The view from the top is amazing. The staff was very professional, and the Museum of Westward Expansion was very interesting, especially for American History and Native Culture fans like us.

Recommend going early in the morning before it gets busy to avoid lines. The ride to the top is worth the lines and wait though for the views the top of the arch offers. You are able to be at the top for as long as you would like for pictures and viewing.

I had passed the arch for 12 years and finally stopped to check it out. I am disappointed that I did not do it sooner, there are so many things to see and do downtown. I enjoyed the trip to the top, was a little scary at forst but overall a really good time.

Why go within 300 miles of St Louis and not visit the Arch? Going up in it is actually worth the trip (as opposed to the 4 hour nightmare that is the Empire State Building) but the engineering alone is so cool. Check out the displays in the museum showing how much St Louisans hated the design when it was first proposed. Not many landmarks would have the cojones to talk about being despised at first.

It's not just historical and representative of great strength and ingenuity of America, and a great ride up and fantastic views, it's something different to see walking around at all angles. Glorious! The park took excellent foresight. Beautiful trees and park. I took a picture of it peeping through a bridge down and under. Cool. Spend time down in museum, and in it, but really take it in by walks, play, and drives. Fee up is very reasonable.
