The Shakespeare Chateau is not only a great Bed & Breakfast (with SO many great amenities), it's also a wonderful place to hold a special event. We recently held a surprise birthday party for my partner who was turning 30. Isabel, the owner and hostess, was so helpful in coordinating the event, catering the delicious food, and pulling the whole thing off. We had 25 guests and had more than enough room in this gorgeous historic mansion.

Isabel gave all of our party guests a wonderfully-interesting tour of the house... and just made the evening so special! She is passionate about this mansion, and it certainly shows!

After the party was over, we enjoyed a very comfortable room for the night, complete with great amenities (wifi, bottled water, towel warmer, etc). The next morning, we had a scrumptious breakfast on the front porch (we could have chosen to eat inside, but it was so beautiful out), followed by a great stroll around the neighborhood (there are several beautiful historic mansions all along Hall Street).

We HIGHLY recommend the Shakespeare Chateau. Trust us... you WON'T be disappointed!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are great!!!

It was a fabulous birthday party, indeed! A complete surprise was achieved, and friends and family came from all over to join the celebration. Engaging magic and singing performances meant fun for all. The Shakespeare Chateau is the perfect venue to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or any special occasion. Set in our historic parlors surrounded by incomparable fine art and antiques, our events feature customized menus, host or cash bar service, and personalized service from start to finish. Call us today to schedule your event!

Hello, I do not often write reviews but this Inn is simply one of the most elegant bed and breakfast values. Deep in the heart of historic St. Joseph, the neighborhood is full of bygone mansions. We planned on only one night but could not resist staying a second even though it extended our travel plans. Well worth the extra day. We found the inn comfortable and our room spacious and well appointed. Breakfast was a treat. The owner was a gracious host and helped us with "what to see" and "where to go" while visiting St. Joseph.

The inn is incredible and a must see for anyone interested in beautiful architecture and art. A very good value and totally unexpected by us.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Verona the first night and Romeo and Juliet the second. It was our choice to sample the two rooms. Loved them both.

Thank you for visiting the Shakespeare Chateau, Dennis. This lovely 1885 mansion, well-appointed with art and antiques, never fails to delight visitors. A perfect setting for a weekend getaway, an intimate wedding, a gracious dinner party, or a fun-filled Halloween Event (see my website for details about this!). Come back soon!

Stayed here with my husband as a weekend getaway and LOVED IT! The house is absolutely beautiful and unbelievably unique! Hearing the history of the home by the owner/operator was wonderful! The bathrooms are all modern complete with jacuzzi! The neighborhood has several of these old luxurious homes and was quite entertaining to walk around and see! Not only a very positive experience in our stay but has sparked an interest in history for me! Great experience!

It was a pleasure to host you, Nicki, and I thoroughly enjoyed our morning conversations. St. Joseph is such a fascinating city, replete with history and jewels of architecture, and I am always so pleased when others share my enthusiasm. I hope you'll come back soon - and bring your kids! Getting children excited about history and architecture helps ensure a bright future for these grand old houses!

The Shakespeare Chateau Inn elegantly provides those amenities expected of a luxury B&B: comfortable, clean accommodations and ample, delicious, healthful breakfasts. But it also offers so much more! The stunningly beautiful historic house is filled with antiques, art & stories, and guests are welcomed to learn as much or as little as desired. The superb innkeeper is knowledgeable & passionate, not only about her outstanding establishment, but also about the community & city which surround it. Thank you, Isobel!

Thank you for your review, Sandra, and for your kind words. I so enjoyed your stay here at the Shakespeare Chateau as you and your husband researched family roots in Saint Joseph. I couldn't believe it when you learned that your husband's family had owned the house two doors away from here! I look forward to seeing you both back soon!

I live in Kansas City and took a day trip to St. Joe and this house was the best stop. Not only is the home grand but the caretaker, Isobel, did a wonderful job with the house tour. She mentioned all the details one might miss if you didn't have her to tell you the history of this home.
The architecture in this home is just wonderful, the wood, the wall paper and the flooring. They just don't build homes like this anymore and it's wonderful that one can stay the night in a historic home like this Chateau. It's really a must see when visiting St. Joe, MO.
