“Actually lived there 25 years ago.”

The owner was very gracious and gave my family and I a tour without any notice on Christmas eve. They have done a wonderful job of restoration which is on-going. I lived in this house 25 years ago while in college and have always tried to describe the opulence and splendor of my apartment which had stained glass windows and a fireplace. It is still a beautiful mansion from the two-three foot cherry dragon bannisters to the 47 stained glass windows. If you stay here you must eat at Barbosas Castille about 5 minutes away which is also a beautiful mansion and restaurant. Thanks again for the walk down memory lane and letting me show off my old apartment which is beautiful. Roger G.

This was an awesome place to stay! The rooms are beautifully done and the atmosphere is very relaxing. If you’re looking for a great getaway-this is the place! The innkeeper is fabulous and knows a lot about the history of the house. The stained glass windows, along with the architecture and engraved wood, are breathtaking. A must see if you love old houses as I do!

As the first guests of new owners we were delighted by the architecture of this chateau. Our Inkeeper, Isobel, was more than happy to share the history of the building and the St. Joe area. The rooms were large, the bed comfortable, the stained glass windows are beautiful, and all of our needs were met. Our group plans to re-visit this B&B at a future date to see the progress as they continue to refurbish this beautiful chateau. Thanks to Isobel and Christy for making our stay very enjoyable.

This is a very unique B&B. The architecture, stained glass windows and interior appointments are stunning. The inn keeper, Isobel, was the most accomodating and friendly host. Her love of the home, restoration efforts and knowledge of St. Joseph community are all impressive.

I did not expect to find such a unique and beautiful B&B in St. Jospeh.

Room Tip: I stayed in the Twelth Night Room. Plenty of light in the morning and the room was wonderfully a...

We were the very first guests to stay at the Shakespeare. It is a beautiful chateau with lots of history that Isobel, the Innkeeper, shares. The Chateau has beautiful stained glass windows, beautiful floors, and fireplaces. The bedrooms are very large and very comfortable. Isobel is in the process of refurbishing the Chateau and has wonderful plans for the future. We are looking forwarding to returning to the Chateau and catching up with our new friend. Thank you Isobel and Christy for a fantastic experience and for sharing the Shakespeare.

The majestic Shakespeare Chateau was built in 1885 by Nathan Ogden when St. Joseph Missouri was known as "The Queen of the River Cities." High atop a bluff looking down across the city toward the Missouri River, 809 Hall Street is one of several mansions in the Hall Street Historic District known locally as "Millionaires' Row." You'll enjoy meeting the friendly innkeeper, Isobel, as she takes you through the palatial interior. You'll marvel at 47 (yes, 47!) Original stained glass windows, carved cherrywood, mahogany, and walnut mantles, and of course, a bust of the Bard himself above the grand fireplace in the front foyer. But most of all, you'll enjoy our comfortable sleeping rooms, each one beautifully appointed with fabulous art and antiques and luxurious linens. ... more   less
