“A Quirky Little Museum That's Really Fun”

Vacuum Cleaner Museum and Factory Outlet

We had some time to kill, so stopped by here and found the museum to be really interesting. The docent really knows his stuff and they show probably a hundred of the many vacuums he owns. The story of the vacuums was fascinating.

As soon as you start seeing the signs for the Vacuum Museum down Route 44 or 66 in Missouri, your mind will probably go where mine went... "What the.... Seriously?!" Yea, it's serious and pretty amazing. The curator has an enormous collection of vacuums from the turn of the century until present (he rotates the displays to give all a turn out) It is geared at the inquisitive passerby; not too over or underwhelming, an otherwise boring household tool is made interesting here. We walked through in 10-15 min, but a longer informational tour from the collector man himself is also available. All is free, unless you would like to buy a souvenir or vacuum. I would recommend it if you have the time for a detour, love cleaning, love roadside curiosities, need to stretch the legs in air conditioning, or if your short on vacation cash.

What a lovely quirky museum and it's free. If you are in St. James and have 30 minutes to an hour, definitely stop over. Just make sure you bring the older generation on the tour…they will keep pointing out vacuum cleaners they owned or their parents owned. The curator will give you a personal tour - he's full of vacuum knowledge and energy.
