This is a nice restaurant located in an old historic house on Main Street. They offer good food and service at reasonable prices.

“Eating outside on a pleasant day, a nice experience.”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

It was a beautiful Sunday morning in late March when we stopped in this tourist town. Downtown St. Charles appeals much more to ladies than men (nearly a testosterone free zone) but there are a number of interesting places to eat which makes it enjoyable to men (in addition to the restored 1840s vintage buildings).

We sat outside to enjoy the weather while we ate. They were out of my wife's first choice so she settled for a River Café burger with salad and Coke. I had a Philly cheese steak sandwich, fries and iced tea. $32.00.

The food was excellent. In fact, it is my opinion that the Philly cheese steak sandwich was the best I have ever had outside of the east coast area.

“There is a good reason this is number 1 on TripAdvisor”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

We all stopped for lunch after seeing the reviews on Trip. It was great. The sandwiches and soup were all great and the portions plenty. We each ordered the philly steak, ham n cheese, chicken sand, nachos, fried pickles, and philly soup. All were great and prices reasonable. Wish I had room for the desserts! Maybe next time!

“Okay; service not great.”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

We went here last year and were told they were no longer serving breakfast, so we ordered from the regular menu. (We were just five minutes after the cut-off time.) Shortly after we ordered, another couple was seated and was allowed to order breakfast. This was absolutely wrong. We asked our waitress about it and she said that the other waitress was the manager, and there was nothing she could do about it. Food was okay, sort of overpriced. We have not returned, and don't plan to.

“Pure romance.”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

The restaurant lived up to the reviews. We ate late, their last table of the evening on a Wednesday, for their sirloin special. We set out to have a very romantic dinner which we dressed up for more than was required for the venue, but added to the experience. We sat next to the fireplace and were served by the manager. A steaks and vegetables were done perfectly. the drinks were well made. the staff was extremely friendly and helpful with ideas for the rest of the evening. This is a highly suggested experience.
