“Remoded and WONDERFUL”
Reviewed May 29, 2006

The Red Roof Inn at St Charles has VERY recently been completely remodeled and is WONDERFUL!!! Spend the extra $10 and get the Business King. The rooms are fairly large with LOTS of counter tops, a desk/work area and are decorated QUITE nicely!! Its still not the Ritz, folks... but we just returned from a 2-week trip from northwest Missouri down through Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina, and this is by FAR the nicest place we stayed. GREAT value for the dollar!! Quick and easy walk over the a Bob Evan's Restaurant that has fantastic food for a good price. Sorry the other reviews weren't good, but like we said, the hotel has just been completely remodeled and they did a WONDERFUL job!!! HIGHLY recommeded!!!

We arrived at night, and the place looked okay from the car. We had made a reservation for a non-smoking room, and were completely overwhelmed by the stench of stale smoke. The room was dingy and dirty, with cigarrette burns on the curtains, bedspreads and bed linens. There was dirt or sand or SOMETHING in the bottom of the bath tub, and the toilet seat was damaged and dirty. The door was damaged where it had been kicked in, and a quick patch job had been applied. Did not make me feel safe at ALL!

Despite the shady characters lurking outside, we kept the door open to the 30 degree night air so that we could breathe. We had been on the road for 12 hours and were exhausted, but the residents of Shadyville did seem to leave us a wide berth once they saw me out walking my big male doberman. If it wasn't for him, we would have slept in the car in a safer area.

First thing in the morning we checked out, and the managers response to the smoke smell was that "we can't keep people from smoking in there". Gee, thanks for the non-smoking room. At least they did not charge us for the night.

We stopped here because our flight was late and so, with the day already gone, we weren't looking for anything more than a place to lay our weary heads. So we opted for a budget chain -- and at $45 a night the hotel is indeed a bargain price. But, even at this price, the hotel is no bargain. The room had an unpleasant disinfectant smell. The mattress was soft and the pillows too small. The lighting was harsh and the room was uninviting. In the morning, I was taking a shower when the lights went dark. We learned from the office that the hotel's power line was being "worked on", and that power would be out from four to eight hours. After hearing this news -- even though my hair was still dripping wet -- we couldn't check out fast enough.
