Never would have found Alex's without a guide from Fort Leonard Wood. This seems to be a place in Rolla (where I'd never been) for both students and military folk to hang out. We drove 30 minutes to ensure a decent pizza dinner, and were well satisfied with our first close to Ozarks meal.
First I must admit my prejudice: I have a strong preference for thin crust pizza. So Alex's homemade pies fit the bill very well. Then there's the matter of choice. The menu offers a large selection of toppings in addition to the restaurant composed combos. Three of us chose a large (14") Mediterranean with fresh spinach and basil, feta, banana peppers, tomatoes, and added artichokes. The pizza arrived hot and well cut into small handleable pieces. The flavors were vital and the look attractive. My only quibble is that all the topping morsels were quite small, so some of the ingredients lost some of their taste or textural identity. We demolished the willing pie, and only my innate politeness slowed me down enough to share equally.
A small but reasonable list of draft beers aided in customizing our pizza experience and our happy digestion.
Huge barn of a place, friendly service, with a nice mixture of pizza lovers from around the area.
