As you would expect, the trout was good, prepared nicely, generous portions. The rest of the food was average though; canned green beans, rice seemed to be from a mix, etc. The service was good and atmosphere is nice in a beautiful setting. I expected better quality for this type of restaurant.

Going to Rockbridge Trout and Game Ranch was a late afternoon adventure over winding and twisting roads but it was well worth the enjoyable drive. My East Coast brother wanted great freshwater fish and Rockbridge Trout and Game Ranch delivered.

Although it is about 15 miles off the main road (Route 5) south of Ava, Missouri, it is a surprise for first time visitors. There is lodging, fishing, hiking, horseback riding all in a beautiful Ozark setting.

But, I'm here to talk about the restaurant. It's casual fine dining meaning that you don't need to get dressed to the nine to enjoy a superb meal. I had Amaretto Trout Almondine and the other members of my party had Blackened Trout. We were all delighted with the freshness of the fish. The portions were huge!

Although we had a reservation and were late in arriving, we had to wait to be seated. They didn't have a large wait staff on Thursday evening. However, our waitress was extremely friendly and very efficient. She had us laughing and giggling as she opened our wine. Throughout the meal she checked on us regularly and attended to our every want.

We found the prices reasonable - mostly in the mid teens to low 20's. We had three meals and wine and a tab around $75. Can't beat that for the quality we received.

Everyone took home a box as none of us were able to eat more than half the fish served. So. we had another fine meal the next evening.

I'll go back again. Also, I'd love to plan a family reunion here. The youngsters would have such a good time in the outdoors and it'd be like our our private retreat.

It was a pretty motorcycle ride to the trout farm. We wanted to eat lunch in the mill but it was not open and we thought that was odd for Labor Day weekend. So we ended up in the restaurant. We were disappointed. The only things that were good was the bread and the trout. Salad was very small for $3, potato soup was so thick it was a paste, hashbrowns were extremely greasy, chicken sandwich was just blah (but did have a big ole thumb print in the top bun) and the French fries were straight out of the freezer. The waitress was okay but seemed to think she was part of our party as she always spoke in the third person and was very distracting. I hate to be so negative, we really wanted to like it but it was just average.

The Rockbridge Trout ranch is a great place to eat. The scenery is very relaxing and the food is great. The drive is beautiful as well. It has become one of our favorite get-a-ways to enjoy God's creation.

Normally, this is a restaurant that specializes in TROUT! Thanksgiving Day is a different story. They put on this huge buffet spread that leaves nothing out. And, they have trout as well. Everything, literally, from soup to nuts cooked fresh on premises.
You'll need reservations for Thanksgiving and the place is about 60 miles from nowhere. If you are in a hurry to get there, don't be!
Food, atmosphere, friendly, what more can I say?
We have only been there for thanksgiving but are planning Sunday breakfast/brunch there in the next 2-3 weeks.
Bon Appitite!
