“THE best resort in the Ozarks...period.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2011

I've been to Big Cedar before with just the wife and I, but this last trip was for the kids and to celebrate the oldest birthday. The resort itself is the perfect blend of natural surroundings and the creature comforts one would need when on vacation. During previous visits, we've enjoyed the spa services the massive gift shop primarly.

However, during this last trip we included the kids and got to enjoy some of the other amenities they have for the younger crowd: minature golf, carriage rides, game room etc...from the moment we entered the property with the drive thru brook and waterfall, which was received with a rousing ear piercing scream from the kids as they enjoyed the view overlooking the lake at the entrance...all the way to the actual cabin we stayed. The fun never stopped...

A couple of addt'l notes, when we booked the stay, we mentioned it was for a kids birthday, but didn't request any addt'l items added and such. When we arrived to the cabin, there was a birthday cake made out to my daughter with her name...we literally had no idea that was going to be there...just a small example of the top notch service they provide and how they really listen to the guests to provide one of the most fulfilling stays you can expect. Additionally, you HAVE TO do the tram ride at their sister "property" Dogwood Canyon Park...amazing, beautiful and downright fun. Watch out for the ox and such that will lick your hand if you let them!

We saw an article in Southern Living about Big Cedar and thought it was the most beautiful place we had seen since going to Glacier National Park and we definitely were not disappointed! When we arrived it literally took our breath away! We stayed in one of the lodges the first night and then transferred to a cabin and I would highly recommend either - they were fabulous! The food at ALL of the restaurants was exceptional and the entertainment at the Buzzard Bar was just GREAT! I can't wait to schedule another visit.
We were there in October, 2009 and I can't get back soon enough!!!
I recommend it to everyone I talk to.

This Cabin was *AMAZING*. When we walked in we saw a fully decorated and lit Christmas Tree. A welcome basket with assorted free snacks was waiting on the kitchen table. Firewood, fire starter, kindling and matches were ready for me to create a romantic and warm environment in the full size, floor to ceiling rock fireplace. The place was decorated like a mountain lodge with many mounted fish and deer trophies on the walls. The raccoon peering down from the rafters in the bathroom was a little unnerving though.. :) Great staff at check-in and throughout the stay, and room service breakfast was outstanding! This place is Branson Missouri at its finest.

We lucked into having friends with a time share at Big Cedar Lodge and joined them this year. The place has plenty to do but most of it is extra $$ (minus the pools/swimming...which are GREAT!). We did take our pontoon boat out and the lake is beautiful! It is fairly expensive to stay here without a time share but we had a blast and the money would be well spent. The lodge "suites" are spotless with all the appliances, pot/pans/utensils & linens you need. There are plenty of restaurants on the grounds if you don't feel like cooking. My kids liked the game room when it was way to hot to be outside. All other Branson attractions are within easy driving distance...beware of the traffic! We also came back for Christmas which was just as fun. For sure coming here again :)

Our family travels to Big Cedar about 3-4 times each year for the last eight or nine years. Usually our stays range from three to seven nights. We have stayed in the middle of large snow/ice storms (we were impressed they had plows contracted to clean the resort up and they did it quickly). We have stayed through 110 degree days in the summer. We have always had a great time! Highway 76 Country Music Boulevard is about a 20--minute drive.

The grounds are exremely well-kept and the amenities are always top-notch. We've used the stable several times, rented boats for fun, guides for fishing, Worman house, Buzzard Bar, Brushey Creek, Truman Smokehouse, Bent Hook marina and grocery We recommend downloading the events and activities guide from their website before we leave home so we can plan our family's events on the drive there; tie-dye t-shirts on the lawn, kids fishing contest, dive-in movie (at more than one pool), s'mores by a bonfire, wine and cheese tasting. The Carriage House Spa is one of the best. It's not really something to do all-day for multiple days, yet you could get a different treatment every day for several days. Consistently they offer the best deep-tissue massages I ever receive.

We've stayed in cabins, old lodge room, new lodge rooms. We've stayed at the Wilderness Club (timeshare) and at the standard resort. It really is a matter of taste. The older authentic deluxe lodge rooms (Spring View) and some of the cabins are like a log cabin. Bark still on the wood, etc. The newer lodges are more like any other newer room. Both can be had with private hot tubs, separate bedroom / living rooms. Both will have mounted animals on the walls. Most are available with private fireplaces and small balconies with a great lake view. Most balconies come with a table / chairs to eat on.

The property is large, over several hundred acres total, not counting the nearby golf course. They have several shuttle vans that will take you where ever you want on property. Wait time is usually less than 10 minutes for a van. The average van ride is less than 5 minutes. On any given day there are five or six free family activities led by a member of their staff. There are several large pools, a long lazy river, several public hot tubs.

The food is great! Usually when we go we don't even bother going in town to eat. We can get a varied menu just by staying on property. The Sunday Worman brunch is a definite must-do. Their house blueberry poppyseed dressing is also a must. We've been several times to Dogwood Canyon (sister property 30 minutes down the road). We've fly-fished there, rented bikes, packed a box lunch, ate a burger and rode a tram. This past year they offered Segway tours. They are limited to smaller groups of six or so - they are a real blast. We haven't had that much fun in long time!

It's not The Breakers, The Cloisters or a One and Only Resort - those places just wouldn't "fit" in the Ozarks. It's Big Cedar, definitely just as enjoyable, nice as any of those other Top Ten resorts. The beauty of the resort is that the resort is not the centerpiece, God's beautiful setting is.

We stayed at Big Cedar lodge the weekend on January 7, 2011 and were very disappointed with the condition of the room, which was in the Wildnerss Club section. Before I list my complaints I would like to say that the setting is beautiful in the Missouri Ozarks. There were several things very wrong with our room that we just could not understand why a decent maid or management staff would not have noticed. First, the shower (which was also a tub combo) was clogged up with hair, or something, and would not drain. When you took a shower, the tub quickly filled up and you were standing in water up around your calf. This is something I would expect at Motel 6. Second, the temperature of the shower water must have been controlled by some type of govenor because, at best, it was warm. If you like a hot shower don't expect one here and when you dry off expect those towells that are small and fell like sand paper. Third, the heating and air controllers did not work. It was approximately 35 degrees outside during our stay but the temperature in the cabin was 80 degrees and going up. You could not turn the heat off nor could you turn the a/c on to cool the room down. We had to call maintenance and they could not fix the problem either and told us the wiring was wrong and a new circuit board was needed. How could someone have not noticed this before our stay? We had to open doors every few hours to cool the room back down. Finally, bring your own pillows because the ones they provide are the kind you can wad up into a ball. I guarantee you will have a sore neck in the morning! We are very familar with the Branson area and there are so many nicer places to stay for the money. It is fun to drive through Big Cedar Lodge but don't waste your money staying here.

Stayed here for almost a week in December, 2010. Had wanted to go here for several years now, but other vacations took precedent. However, I can definitely say now that we've been, we will be back! There tagline is America's Premier Wilderness Resort, and I think they live up to it. You really feel like you are getting away here. I can see where a summer trip here would be great with all the water sports and pools that are available, but it was fun being there in the winter also. Every bulding we went into, had a fireplace with a nice fire going. One thing I like about this place is that there are not bellmen or valets at every turn. There is a laidback luxury feel to it that is very rare. We had a double queen in the Falls Lodge. The rooms are very well designed with a larger bathroom with Jacuzzi tub, separate shower, and separate water closet. The room was spacious and had a 42" LG LCD and semi-private balcony overlooking the lake. How nice it is to wake up every morning with that view and the ability to have a cup of coffee on your balcony. While fee-based activities abound, there are many things that are included with the room including wireless interent, parking, and in-room coffee and hot chocolate. Also many complimentary outdoor activities such as shuffleboard, mini-golf, tennis, basketball and other are complimentary. There are three on-site restaurants. Typically I leave a resort feeling like paid much more than I should have for on-site food, but not here. The meals we had at the restaurants were all good, and I felt they were fairly priced. I could go on and on about our trip to Big Cedar, but I won't say anything else but that I highly recommend as a get-away for couples and families.
