“Two nights, two different rooms at Big Cedar Lodge”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

We stayed at Big Cedar Lodge and loved it! The grounds are amazing; clean, manicured and very creative. We ate a light breakfast one morning at the Truman Coffee & Cafe and enjoyed sitting outside in the shade, overlooking the lake. Cost was very reasonable. Dinner one night was at Devil's Pool restaurant. Our party of 4 adults thought the food was good and very plentiful, but a little expensive. Service at each restaurant was good too. We intended to stay one night while on a motorcycle vacation, but decided to stay an extra night. Our first night was in the Valley View Lodge. This must be the oldest building there and we really had the feeling of "old & rundown rooms". A bit of updating would be nice for the cost of the stay. The second night, we moved over to the Spring View Lodge into a much more spacious, and more expensive room. Strange layout with a king bed in the living room area and a private bedroom with a king bed as well. One bathroom, coffee maker, small refrigerator, couch and tv. My only complaint with this room was the view (picture attached). We were disappointed that there wasn't an area to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful scenery near our room. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, just didn't feel we got our money's worth either night.

Room Tip: Book early as they sell out quickly. Specifically ask about the views of the room.

Dear okgladmom,

We are delighted that your enjoyed your stay at Big Cedar! Our landscaping team does a wonderful job keeping the grounds beautiful, and our culinary staff works hard to bring tasty food to all of our guests. I'm sorry that the Valley View Lodge room wasn't exactly what you were hoping for, and that the Springview Lodge room didn't have the greatest view. However, keep your eyes open as we look ahead to improve our lodging at Big Cedar in the future! We look forward to having you back with us! When you book your next reservations be sure to ask about our Falls Lodge or a Private Log Cabin!

I've been to Big Cedar lodge three times over the past year. What an amazingly beautiful place! I don't think that I could possibly put into words how beautiful this property is & how relaxing. I've always been a beach girl through & through but this property on beautiful Table Rock lake has completely swayed my opinion. From the time that you enter the property you have mountaintop views of the lake. There are waterfalls everywhere as well as walking trails, beautiful flowers, & so much more. We have stayed in a cabin, the springs, & the falls. The Falls lodge is by far our favorite. The balcony that overlooks the lake & waterfalls is just breathtaking. The rooms are spacious & the lobby is beautiful.
The property offers a vast array of family activities such as boat rentals, tubing, fishing, hiking, a beautiful lake front beach, amazing pools by the lake as well as season art classes.
There is also a spa that I've visited. It is currently divided into two spots but they are building a new spa that promises to be grand. I've had facials, mani/pedis, & massages that have all been wonderful.
There are restaurants on property & they offer gluten free options as well. There is room service too. It is just wonderful to have a glass of wine or breakfast overlooking the lake.
And the lake....wow....one of the most beautiful that I've been on in the United States.
I cannot wait to go back to this beautiful property!

Dear Tootlepops,
We're glad you found Big Cedar to be such a great place for you! We are very proud of our Falls Lodge which overlooks are beautiful corner of Table Rock Lake. We recently added our Big Cedar Beach Club and couln't be happier with how much of a hit it has been with our families. Keep an eye out for our new spa which should open in early 2014!! Next time you want to come back and enjoy a glass of wine you should join our Big Cedar Wine Club that we started back in 2011! Lots of fun!

What a fabulous place to spend the 4th of July holiday! This resort is a "hidden gem"! They do not miss a beat in anything they do! The 3 current restaurants are all very good and have excellent service. There are so many activiites, it is the PERFECT place for a family with children of all ages! We visited 2 pools and the lazy river. The kids all played mini golf, also went to the beach where the kids got to canoe and kayak! We rented a boat for a day on the lake, also perfect!!
We went with friends and all shared a very large 4 bedroom, 4 bath suite. We had an incredible view along with a nice deck to relax on, a kitchen and a nice great room to hang out in. Plenty of space for 4 adults and 4 children!

We agree - coming to Big Cedar Lodge is the PERFECT way to spend the 4th of July! We're glad you were able to experience all 3 restaurants as well as our pools and lazy river! We also wanted to help keep you all busy with the mini-golf course, our new Big Cedar Beach Club with canoes and kayaks, & Bent Hook Marina's boat rentals. We are fortunate to live close enough to Big Cedar that we are able to make an annual 4th of July family outing each year. The resort is unparalleld in the Midwest...everything you could possibly need or want, including good old relaxation, is available on property including multiple pools, restaruants, trails, water activities, a spa, fitness center, and well-marked 5K course. We have stayed in multiple cabins and 'hotel style' rooms, and all are spacious and comfortable. Big Cedar's annual 4th celebration includes food, games and kids activities on the lawn, as well as the most in-your-face up-front-and-personal professional fireworks show you'll ever see. Timed to a soundtrack of all American music, the fireworks show is attended by all on property guests, as wells as hundreds of boats that pull into Big Cedars cove to watch from the lake. Big Cedar's 4th of July celebration is a 'don't miss' event!!

Room Tip: If you want to stay on property for the July 4th events...make your reservation several months (if n...

Dear MrChanute,

Thanks for the great review of our property! We know that relaxation and fun are 2 of the best experiences we can offer our guests. We pull out all the stops for the 4th of July. The celebration full of games for the kids, pincnic style bbq, great country music all perfectly lead up to the best part - the fireworks show! This year's fireworks show did not disappoint! Thanks for being loyal guest! We value your family tons, and can't wait to see you again next summer!

I stayed at Big Cedar Lodge in March 2013 with my boyfriend as a side trip from a visit to Tulsa. After much pondering over the website between hotel rooms and cabins we opted for a private one-room cabin. We didn’t regret it – the cabin was delightful and much bigger than we expected. On arrival we checked in at the main reception to a warm welcome and were directed on the drive to our cabin. I hadn’t expected the resort to be so large but our cabin was a five minute drive round to the other side of the lake. The cabin was absolutely delightful, a real picture-book experience. Even though it was one of the smaller cabins it was large and spacious – a huge king-size bed, large open fireplace with seating area and TV, a kitchen area with dining table a deck with an outside grill and seating area overlooking the lake. All the cabins are on the edge of the lake so stand on stilts and the way that they are positioned gives maximum privacy as they are set discreetly apart. The bathroom was a good standard with a Jacuzzi bath (with different coloured lighting within the bath). There were a variety of nice touches – a welcome basket, an evening delivery of home-made cookies and firewood. There was also wifi in the cabin – sometimes a little patchy but to be expected in the wilderness! The resort has a couple of restaurants and a bar as well as a couple of pools. The jacuzzis and outdoor pool are delightful and you can swim on the side of the hill while overlooking the lake. As we visited off-season not all the facilities were in use although you could hire boats etc. There was some building work taking place on site so some areas were unavailable. We had dinner in the bar one evening and there was a live country band – all good local entertainment. The food was average but good-sized, the type of thing you’d expect in a bar. The staff were all universally friendly, helpful and polite. Any problems and you could ring customer services and within a few minutes someone would knock on your door with firewood, shuttle bus to main resort etc. The main attraction for us at this resort was a really romantic break with luxury thrown in and we loved it. The only slight downside for us (and may be a bonus for others) was that the cabin was decorated hunting-style with a variety of animals’ heads!

Room Tip: There are a variety of cabins available as well as regular hotel rooms. The cabins are what make thi...

Dear bowtraveller,
We are so glad you enjoyed your cabin! Sorry about the construction you noticed on property, but I can tell you that we are VERY excited about the projects we have going on at Big Cedar. From our new spa to the renovations to Devil's Pool Restaurant and Buzzard Bar to our new Garden Chapel and the incredible covered bridge, Big Cedar is working hard to get better and better! We're glad you have a great little getaway and we can’t wait for you to come back. Try October when the leaves are changing – spectacular!
