Lambert's Home of the Throw'd Rolls! And coming right at your face! :-) And you will be glad of it!
The food at Lambert's is some of the best restaurant food I have ever had. Considering we have traveled the world extensively and been fortunate enough to have eaten some lovely 5 star meals on those travels, I don't find it strange at all that Lambert's floats to the top of our list of preferred culinary delights!
Served in frying pans the food is just as good as it could be and is sure to be a memorable meal should you take the time to visit.
Our wait time was about 1 hour, but we didn't mind as we had eaten there several times before and knew what to expect. To say the least, it was well worth the wait.
I had the Chicken Fried Steak and mashed potatoes and my lovely wife had the Country Bone In Ham with the yams. This food could make a puppy pull a freight train!
Fried okra, fried potatoes with onion done to perfection, mac and cheese, black eyed peas. They all roam the huge dining hall and will eventually make it to your table served out of large stainless steel bowls and spooned with relish onto your skillet. You will need to move your food over for any of these roaming sides as their portions are massive. As a matter of fact if you pray before your meals as we do, you may want to reserve the prayer for after your meal and include a sentence or two asking for forgiveness! I don't think they sell many deserts... at least not to those who don't order and eat them prior to their meal being served.
The Chicken Fried Steak is homemade (not just battered pressed meat), tender, and luscious! The Ham and Yams are equally delicious. And nothing that we have ever had at Lambert's has ever disappointed us in the least.
Be forewarned: It would be advisable to not eat 24 hours prior to coming to Lambert's. That is what we do and we still cannot finish our meals even though we really give it a shot. My wife took her remaining ham back with us. We ordered a dozen rolls to go and ate on the leftover ham and the rolls for several delicious days.
So yes! They do throw the warm yeast rolls across the room for you to catch and enjoy with excellent sorghum and melted butter, but Lambert's does not need a gimmick! All they need is just a try. That will be enough to keep the vast majority of people coming back for years!
