“Fun time with the kids at the lake”
Reviewed June 19, 2013 via mobile

We just left our room and had a very fun stay. We were lucky enough to get the room directly next to the large outdoor pool with a kiddie pool and waterslide. Everyone on staff was wonderfully nice and accomodating. Our 1 year old and 4 year old boys had a blast!!! The kiddie pool area was just a small wading fountain pool and our one year old loved it. We brought a couple water toys for him and he was ready to play all day. Our four year old must have ridden the waterslide a hundred times throughout our three day stay. The view of the lake was gorgeous. The pool was wonderful and extra large with little waterfalls. Both boys enjoyed the big pool also. There is an indoor little waterpark area but it is pricy and not included in the room price. the four year old loved it but the bucket that dumps a lot of water is very loud and scary for little ones like our one year old. he did not enjoy this area. there is also a smaller outdoor pool if you want to be alone and an arcade for the kids. Yes the rooms do look like they are from the seventies and there are a few flies and interesting bugs but this is to be expected for a place right in the woods on a lake. Don't expect a spacious contemporary updated room. Expect what a lake house room would look like and you will be good to go.

Attended a conference at the resort. Wonderful view of the lake Very nice place. Would have payed for extra nights but price is too high when you are gone most of the time and sorry to say amother motel down the road was just as nice for one third of price. For those with extra money to blow great place to spend it.

Room Tip: If you want privacy and will drive--then rooms out on the extates can be nice. More secluded. My pre...

Stayed here for a 3-day conference this past week. Upon arrival stood in line for 90 minutes to check-in along with hundreds of others who were attending the same conference. A colleague and I were assigned to a building in the Estates section-apparently a heads-up of 20-25 minutes is needed to get back and forth between the main building and this room to shuttle back and forth, even though a lakeview room was requested in March when the reservation was initially made. We finally find the building and it is below parking level down two flights of stairs, through a main door, then down another flight of stairs with no light and into another our actual room. The whole setting was creepy, dark, and musty and set so deep in the woods we didn't have cell service. After 4:00, headed back to the check-in counter to inquire about whether anyone had checked out recently and whether there was a room available in or near the main building. After some discussion with a supervisor, we were reassigned to a suite with kitchen near the lake, Room 504. Excited, we move over to the new room, walk in and start looking over the place. Oh no, another creepy room with a terrible musty smell, and Tan Tar A's very own guide to all kinds of creepy crawlies that you might expect to find while staying-my guess their attempt to normalize sleeping with bugs...oh, and love the disclaimer to contact your family physician if you end up being bit or stung and have a reaction. Went to dinner with a group and came back-yep even creepier at night- and things commenced to go from bad to worse. Found a slug on the inside of the front door, a wolf spider in the bathroom (according to the handy guide), and then as roommate and I were preparing for bed, close to 11:00 at this point, pull back my blanket and find bug carcasses and black specks lining the sheets at the head of the bed. Look over the 4 pillows on my bed and notice dead bugs or bug particles on 3 out of the 4 pillows. Threw them down between the bed and wall I was so grossed out. Got a hand towel from the bathroom and started swiping bugs onto the floor. Looked at my final remaining pillow closely, turned it over and noticed more black specks and tiny crawling alive red bugs, what I now believe to be termites. In distress, phoned a friend also staying at the conference who reported she and a roommate had just called the "engineer" who sprayed and now bugs were now falling out of the ceiling on to them. She reported her parents had a house a half hour away that we were welcome to stay at. I have never felt such intense relief in my life. After fleeing at midnight, getting settled in at the house, we were left with about 5 hours of sleep before heading over to the conference. Arrived at exactly 8:00 and informed by the breakfast manager that food was unavailable. Reported we just wanted coffee and she said "good luck with that". After sitting in several musty smelling, poorly air conditioned conference sessions, realized I was having some issues with runny nose, watery eyes, and scratchy throat, started suspecting that there were some significant mold issues that I was being exposed to-my worst allergen issue. Went to the check-in desk to report the experience from the night before and asked that charges be removed due to the conditions and experience we had. The clerk didn't even question us, said no problem, and moved on to the next person in line. No apologies, no explanation, no eye contact even. As I sat through days of conferences developing severe headaches and body aches, and then finally a hacking, wheezing cough on the way home, I suspected my exposure to mold was over the top. Home a few days now, I'm recuperating from a bout of acute.bronchitis, most definitely linked to this nasty place. Bring a mask or respirator, anti-venom and a mosquito net, or better yet a tent to pitch on the beautiful grounds. But do not put your health and life at risk unless you are guaranteed a renovated, newly furnished room and you will not need to sit in any conference room besides Salon A, B, or C.

Over the years, my husband and I have occasionally spent a weekend at Tan-Tar-A Resort. And, to be honest, the interiors of the rooms and public areas have changed very little over the past twenty years. It was apparent, though, from our latest visit that the staff is passionate about turning the resort once again into a first class property. From the front desk staff, to housekeeping, to the guys at the golf course and the waitresses in the Big Bear Restaurant, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Every employee we came in contact with gave exceptional service, and always with a smile. Yes, the carpet is tired and the fixtures old, but I am a stickier for cleanliness in a hotel and I was very pleased with our room and the public areas. If you are looking for a get away with outdoor pools, an indoor water park, two golf courses, a horse stable, bowling, mini golf, and a playground for the little ones, Tan-Tar-A is a great deal.

Just returned from an annual three-day state-wide convention held at Tan-Tar-A. Having attended and managed many similar events, this is an excellent facility for them. The only drawback is that the buildings are in multi-levels on the side of an Ozarks hill, so there is a lot of up and down walking. Good efforts have been made to create accessibility. The staff is skilled and experienced from conference room set-up to serving large groups for buffet lunches. Check-in and check-out are efficient (tough with large groups). Rooms were clean, and well-maintained.

Room Tip: Be specific with your requests since there are many types of rooms. Some include lots of walking. So...

We have a family vacation every year at Tan-Tar-A resort and it is always fun and relaxing. This year there were 23 of us, we rented 3, 2 bedroom units and they plenty for all of us. The master bedroom has a King, and the second bedroom has two queens, there is also a pull out bed in the living room couch. IT is REALLY horrible, even a 9 year old complained about it. Luckily we had an air mattress and just used it instead, problem solved. The pool was great and the kids loved the outdoor waterslide. We did not utilize the indoor park this year, however we did use the indoor pool one day as the temps were pretty low on Saturday. The place could use a face lift and the price is pretty high considering you don't get meals provided, not even a breakfast. All in all it was fun but we are thinking that if we have the same amount of people we are going to rent a house on the lake next year and save $1500 bucks. The fireworks show on Sunday night is to die for!

Room Tip: If you want a room on the water ask for a cabin, the rooms in the towers are not that great and have...

Yearly conference and back to the resort. Someone needs to rescue this place! My room had a great bed but I to plug in the coffee pot I had to first unplug the fridge. Could never close the closet door as the 70's style door was rickety. Prices in the shops are outrageous. Everywhere u walk the floors creak. I do have to say, though, the staff are always nice and helpful.
