“Delicious Food”
Reviewed May 24, 2014

We were in a group of 7 last night for our first time at Starfish and we were certainly more than happy with our experience. The food was excellent and all of us were delighted with our choices. The service was a little slow but it didn't take anything away from the overall experience - it gave us time to catch up with news from all our friends. We will definitely return, and soon.

“Sshhhh don't tell anyone!”
Reviewed April 15, 2014 via mobile

8 of us came for dinner for my wife's birthday. Starfish is our run away favourite restaurant in Avalon. Vietnamese / Australian fusion food using top quality ingredients. Very subtle spice in the seafood dishes yet simply cooked without overpowering sauces.
A perennial favourite entree is the moreton bay (or balmain I forget) bugs.
Puddings are delicious and good toby estate coffee.

The service is terrific. Friendly and efficient. Same faces have been there for years.

It was nearly full on a Tuesday night in April which says a lot.

But keep it quiet we can still get a table with a few days notice :)

“Hard to rate given our experience”
Reviewed March 7, 2014

Our Experience here for our 28th Anniversary was a mixed one. While we have eaten at Starfish quite some time ago for several lunches, this was our first experience for dinner. I chose this restaurant for its consistency in serving good food. Our meal was good until my husbands main came out. He had the 48 hour cooked ribs. We cook ribs at home a great deal so we know how ribs should or can be served. His meal for 39 consisted of two small bones, one with no meat and one piece of meat, dipping sauce and rice. We were going to say nothing but I wanted my husband to eat! We are not big eaters but this was beyond nouvelle cuisine, this was wrong. I pointed out to the waitress that they seemed to have forgotten the meat ( in a nice way). She was shocked, agreed took the dish back to the kitchen and they made another slightly bigger version of the meal. Also we hadn't noticed the first dish was missing the salad it was supposed to come with. Thankfully the waitress noticed and told the chef! There were 11 people dining that night, so they can't have been so rushed to have supplied such a small meal, nor could they have run out. We had two mains, one entree and dessert and our own wine for $125.00. The food was great, service saved us from a very unhappy situation but the chef needs to be observant and given it was a quiet mid week dinner there really isn't much of an excuse for our experience. Obviously don't order the ribs if you go. Would I go back. I just don't know…such a shame.

“Worth finding”
Reviewed November 29, 2013

Went for dinner with friends in Avalon - their local favorite is Starfish..a kinda Viet/Aus style cuisine.
The food was exquisite, really well done, full of interesting but not over powering flavours. If you want the snapper best order early (one of my friends did this almost as we sat down - it was only 1900 hrs..and was told she had the last one)
Scallops - excellent - crispy calamari and pork belly as an entree...perfect.
Staff are very pleasant, its BYO, though beer goes well with this food and the coffee to finish with. good.
