Failsworth, Manchester is probably not the first (or 50th!) place that springs to mind for culinary excellence but the Desi Lounge Restaurant which opened there in 2005 is well worth the 4 mile journey from the city centre. The general ambiance and friendly welcome is a good balance between city sleek and home from home and it is ideal for anything from an intimate meal for two to a celebration for up to 250 in their function room. The real gem here is the food. As a vegetarian I have normally decided what I'll eat while others are still perusing the menu because there are so few dishes to choose from. Here the vegetarian selection is both extensive and delicious. I can see I'll have to keep visiting until I've tried them all and then maybe start again. My partner assures me the meat dishes are equally impressive. The staff cannot be faulted and the cost is considerably less than you'd pay in the city. Well worth a visit - or 10!
