Temperate climate, lovely forested areas with really well-maintained walking tracks and some excellent walkways, fantastic coastal views, no crowds, no crime, no hassles. Recommend Cumberland Resort as being central, clean, reasonably priced. We had 3 nights in a twin room plus car for 3 days and the flights ex Brisbane for $915 each. The Chinese restaurant opposite was very good too, with quick and well-priced takeaways available. The ocean views from the Capt Cook lookout are incredible and I was far more impressed with Norfolk Is than I had expected to be. Kingston colonial settlement is a World Heritage site, well worth a look, and the restoration project on heavily denuded Phillip Island is inspirational. All this and 3 endemic bird species too with Norfolk Is Parakeet (Critically Endangered), Norfolk Is Gerygone and Slender-billed White-eye, not forgetting very distinct subspecies of Golden Whistler, Grey Fantail and Pacific Robin. The ethereal White Terns nest in the Norfolk pine groves too.

We went to Norfolk Island for the Christmas Break. This place is highly recommended for rest and relaxation. Lots to do. Fine food. Wonderful people. Fantastic snorkeling and swimming. This is the place to visit and I highly recommend the Cumberland Resort and Spa. The managers are wonderful, helpful and very very friendly and my husband and I would go back and stay again and again and again. Absolute Paradise. Duty Free Shopping

Room Tip: We had a corner suite. Very comfortable, roomy and quiet.

There are two parts to this feedback. Firstly, this is our third visit to Norfolk Island. It has a fantastic climate, rich in history both Australian and British, no crime, no graffiti, no litter, no pollution, and no locals constantly touting for your dollars.
This place is stunningly beautiful. It is paradise in the South Pacific.

This trip we selected Cumberland Resort and Spa for accommodation.
We were met on arrival by Rael and given a brief tour of Burnt Pine on our way to Cumberland.
Angela then introduced us to our accommodation pointing out all the conveniences that were provided.
Our unit is the last to be renovated. This occurs mid Jan 2013, and yet is still perfectly functional, comfortable, clean and very well provisioned. We did not want for anything. Our hosts strive to provide the highest level of service, thereby making our stay unforgettable.
We took advantage of the supplied Corolla for ease of getting around. Again clean and reliable, ideal for us.
Hint, if you want to seriously indulge yourselves, ask about the secluded five bedroom home on the Ball Bay side of the island which is the epitome of opulence, quality and comfort. Arguably the finest in the South Pacific.
Each trip to NI for us gets better.
Thanks again Rael and Angela. We will return.
Warm regards,
Al and Sue Quiggin
Sydney

Thanks so much for your great feedback!

You are so right - we are so lucky to enjoy this easy going island paradise without any of the negative things other places have. No graffiti, no hassles, no worries.

The refurbishments for your unit are scheduled to be completed by Jan 2013, so please come back soon and enjoy the new, snazzy en-suite bathrooms with double spa bath (bathroom 1) or walk-in massage shower (bathroom 2), the stainless steel kitchen with stone bench-tops, King beds, etc. This will bring it up to the standard of all the other villas.

Are you looking for a beautiful island with forest, hiking trails, birdlife, sunshine, turquoise ocean, tropical fish and some surf (if you choose)? If so we would highly recommend beautiful Norfolk Island, and the Cumberland Resort.

We were looking for a restful but beautiful holiday, with some luxury and lavish service. We certainly found it at The White House at the Cumberland Resort.

Even before our arrival at the airport we knew that we had chosen well. Rael stayed in touch with us from when we first made our booking, and reassured us that we had made a great choice... heightening our anticipation of our holiday. When we arrived, Rael was right there at the door of the airport, no worries, with a sign and a big smile on his face and his vehicle waiting. He loaded our luggage for us, and drove us through the town with a guided tour on the way. On arrival at the Cumberland we immediately felt at home, as he reassured us and gave us choices of the type of accommodation we would like, checking all the time that our needs were met.

Our rental car was promptly arranged for us, and was freshly cleaned and ready to go with a full tank of gas. Our excitement was rising with a new country - albeit 8 km long! - to explore and a whole week to do it.

Angela drove us out to the beautiful White House, stopping on the way to show us the sights. Blue sky, blue ocean, and views right out to the horizon. Beautiful seabirds sweeping down into the valleys, and soaring pines.

The White House was amazing... soaring ceilings, polished floors, endless forest and ocean views, five star furnishings. The wrap around decks gave endless places to watch the ocean and the twilight, and the white terns soaring in the private forest-clad gullies. The massive leather-clad sofas, huge gourmet kitchen, heated spa (and spa bath) and beautiful soft king-size bed with 1000 thread count soft linens made us truly feel like pampered guests. What a treat... if you need a break and rejuvenation, this is where to get it.

The kitchen and house were so well-equipped, beautifully clean and serviced and with everything we needed... kitchen with full breakfast pack (eggs, bread, milk, jams, butters... enough to go to the beach with a picnic on our first day); bathrooms with fat fluffy robes and towels, beautiful gels, shampoos and soaps; laundry with washing powders, beach towels, snorkels and yes even Christmas decorations for us ready to hang for the festive day!!!!

Rael and Angela, you restored our "will to live" and gave us the best holiday we've ever had.

We unreservedly recommend all the Cumberland Resort & Spa's services and rooms to anyone looking for a great holiday. During our stay, we regularly popped into "the Cumberland" main resort (as invited) - the swim spa, barbecue area and fruit supplied (free, of course!) every day made this hard to resist... imagine picking up freshly-picked avocado, pawpaw and bananas and taking them back to your own private paradise to feast on! (Did I mention the 30% discount off liqueurs at the town liquor store for each traveller?) A perfect treat after visiting the tropical fishes in the lagoon that swim inside the reef every day.

I have to finish this review now as I feel so homesick for The White House at the Cumberland Resort & Spa, and for beautiful Norfolk Island. But I look forwards to returning one day!

If you have the opportunity to partake of Rael and Angela's hospitality, I urge you to do so!

Thank you team for your wonderful care of us... we really will remember it forever.

We look forwards wholeheartedly to the next time we can stay with you and see your smiling faces.

Best regards... Frith & Denis

Room Tip: All of the rooms at the Cumberland Resort & Spa are beautiful, but if you want a real treat - or have extra family to accommodate - try The White House - absolute bliss!!!

We stayed at the Cumberland over the Christmas break.
It is ideally situated, being a few minutes walk in to the centre of town.
We were picked up at the airport by our host Rael and driven back to the resort.
The rooms were a little bit smaller than I had expected, but they were clean and comfortable. It had everything one could need. Flat screen TV, DVD player, full kitchen amenities and a breakfast starter in the fridge. (eggs, milk, butter, bread etc)
We did have a small problem with the wifi access and being xmas there wasn't much Rael could do about it. To his credit on the first working day he was straight on to the wifi providers and they sent a tech out straight away and fixed the problem.
All in all a very pleasant stay and a place I would recommend.
Thanks Rael and Angela.

We're always grateful to receive any feedback, so we can continue to improve our service level. Besides the service and quality, many of our guests really appreciate the very short 2 minute stroll to the cafes and shops in town.
