“Wonderful Jewel”
Reviewed June 28, 2007

This was our first experience with a bed and breakfast and it was just plain wonderful. Our rooms were in a Greek Revival mansion from the turn of the century. They were beautifully appointed with individual bathrooms and a connecting sun porch. The owners Larry and
Michaelene were gracious, helpful and a wealth of information on the house and nearby attractions and restaurants. The property is immaculate and beautiful, they even have a dove cote. In the evening the entire garden was a sparkle with lightning bugs.

Breakfast was sumptuous and served in a lovely comfortable sun porch
- though there is a pretty dining room that could be used at other times of the year.

We loved it and highly recommend staying at the Dickey House! We are afraid no other bed and breakfast could ever measure up.

My Husband and I went to this quiet, beautiful bed and breakfast for our short, sweet, relaxing honeymoon. We could not have asked for better service. The Garden Suite that we stayed in for the weekend was wonderful and the main house was so interesting. The Hostess was so great. The food was wonderful. Our breakfasts were actually our favorite part of the whole experience. We plan to visit The Dickey House as much as possible for our anniversary's to come.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Dickey House is a 108 year old unique and gracious Greek Revival mansion that sits on an acre of gardens. The Dickey House is and has been a Bed and Breakfast for the past 27 years. The mansion was built at the turn of the 20th century by Samuel N. Dickey, the poor son of a farmer father and school teacher mother. Self-taught, Mr. Dickey later became a prominent prosecuting attorney in Marshfield and Webster county. The Mansion remained in the family until 1970 when the daughter, Ms. Ella, passed away. As a Springfield area bed and breakfast, this majestic home invites you to step back in time while enjoying all the amenities of modern life. From the first glimpse of this massive mansion, with its four, three foot diameter hand-made columns, Widow's Walk and new beveled glass front entrance, you feel that you have touched an era that has long since passed. The Mansion has been renovated and updated in 2000 and again in 2014 and has an upscale look and feel with a blend of the old and new. ... more   less
