“Favorite Restaurant in Macon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2013

AJ's is a must stop when we stay in Macon. Food is always very good and you won't leave hungry! You have to try the onion ring appetizer!!! You can get anything from a steak to burgers to pasta to barbecue to pizza!!! Prices are very reasonable (as opposed to the attached Apple Tree). Service is always fast and friendly!

“Thank you TripAdvisor reviewers!”

If I hadn't read your reviews I probably would have gone to Pizza Hut. We had an excellent meal at AJs. Started with the onion rings. Excellent. Then a side salad with an offering of four homemade dressings. Yummy. We were told these are recipes of the founder's wife. (Founder was present. Been in business 65 years.) Having been born and raised in Iowa, I've always thought Iowans were the best for breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches. This, however, was the best. And, I topped it off with the french dressing rather than ketchup. Perfect. They sell their dressings and seasonings inhouse and online. Oh. Also. They have homemade ice cream.

“Large portions, huge desserts, over-rated”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

This place is slightly over rated for the value. 4 of us had dinner and it was ok, but not great. The touted onion rings were not hot. Buns for the sandwiches were cold. All 4 of us ordered desserts. All servings were large, with the turtle ice cream pie serving size being especially huge, way more than 1 person could eat.

The steaks are expensive, but some other menu items are reasonable. Décor is bare bones.

“bad lunch”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

pre-made hamburger patties that tasted sour. paired with cold stale French fries. all of this for $10.00, What a deal. this makes 3 out of 4 bad meals I have had at this place in the past two months. Many others patrons from the area have had similar experiences. Expensive, undercooked, cold meals all while you have someone breathing over your shoulder to get you out as fast as possible.

“Fantastic Pulled Pork and Onion Rings”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2013

I cannot say enough about our dinner here during midweek. The place was packed and I now know why. The food and service were just excellent. I had a pulled pork and slaw sandwich with fries after an appetizer of onion rings and it was great. The $1 margarita was a treat too. Portions were huge and everyone there seemed to be enjoying themselves. Service was right on the mark with a young staff that looked like they were having fun too. We could not finish our meals so we had a box to go which worked out great for our travel plans. Everything about AJ's is a winner. When in Macon, don't miss a meal here. When we departed the owner asked if we enjoyed our dinner and when he asked where we were from, he thanked us for stopping by. Nice touch.
