Owner description: It was a cold and snowy February afternoon when a group of horsemen rode into Liberty, Missouri. After a short time, gunshots broke the winter silence as the men rode off with their loot leaving one young college student dead and the town in shock. While the robbers were never caught, the crime as attributed to the infamous James Gang. Visitors see bank as it was in 1866. Period furnishings fill the room and one become immersed in the story of the robbery as told by the bank teller. As you peer into the original green vault you can imagine the fear felt by the two bank tellers. Among the furnishings, a rare Seth Thomas clock, set for the exact time and date of the robbery, February 13, 1866. Many photographs and other documents are on display for the public to view. “Family trip”

This was a very nice stop on our trip to Kansas City. It is a very nicely restored Bank. The volunteer working there was very friendly. We had coupons from the Kansas City Conventions Bureau for Buy One Get One, otherwise it would be pricey for a one room museum that had the relic items. This is a great piece of history, and the town there is very nice if you wanted to spend a day going to the little shops.

“Informative!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2012

I haven't read a lot about Jesse James but seen the movies. Ooops! I've been misinformed. Hollywood duped me! Or at least that's what I was told today at the museum. The museum has some wonderful antiquities, pictures and information regarding Jesse and his gang. The guide was very informative and was able to answer all questions.

“Bucket List”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2011

I have a bucket list. On it was to visit a Jesse James Bank...I think this fits the bill! THe worker was informative and great! She was eager to tell us about the bank, the history, and allow us to look around and ask any questions that we had. We had a Buy one get one coupon which sweetened the deal even more! Great place to stop if you are in Liberty!

“Very Interesting, home of the first bank robbery!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2009

I really enjoyed visiting this bank and seeing the original vault and building. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the museum and the legend of Jesse James and the James Gang robbery. This was a nice little town to visit and very inexpensive. You will enjoy this!
